We have two options for our stay in January and I'd love to get some feedback.

Option 1:
January 3-7
Staying in a one-bedroom unit at Wyndham Bonnet Creek

Option 2:
Jan 13-17
Staying in a one-bedroom Savanna view room at AKV

The pro of option one is I wouldn't have to take my DDs out of school at all. They'd need to miss one day with option two. But DH would need to take four days off with option 1 and only two days with 2. I have tons of vacation time, so that's not an issue for me.

Option 2 would allow us to use ME and not have to rent a car, but it's projected to be a busier weekend. However, I'm not sure I'm buying the crowd prediction of a 4 for January 4th. It seems like it will be busy, since I know a ton of schools are out that whole week.

I would vote option 2. Now that Osborne Lights are gone there won't be much Xmas stuff left to see on Jan. 3. We think onsite adds a lot to the overall experience of a WDW trip. JMHO.

With Jan 1 being a sunday, I can see jan 4 being really quiet. I personally think this fall is going to be a little light. a lot of people that didn't plan to come last winter did when they heard it was the last year for osbourne lights. With price increases and pandora next year I can see people taking this year off and not coming this fall.

I'm always in favor of staying on-site :) I will say we were there this past January over MLK weekend, arriving the Fri. before and staying until the Wed. after. We did feel the crowds on Sunday afternoon at MK but otherwise we felt it was fine and had a great time.

Thanks! We decided to go with MLK. I can't pass up AKV. We haven't stayed offsite in 8 years, so I think it would have been a bit disappointing if we'd gone that route.

I was going to put my vote in for MLK. But see there is no need. I'm not sure there is much difference in the crowd ratings any more. It's just always crowded. We were there over MLK this year. My "4" days didn't feel a whole lot better than my "6" or "7" days.

On property is the way to go!

I'd go with option 2. Staying on property is awesome!

The weekend nearest my birthday is always MLK, so I've been to Disney twice on that weekend (2013 and 2014). In 2013, we arrived on Thursday and departed on Sunday, in 2014, we arrived on Sunday and departed the Friday following the holiday. The crowds were totally manageable and, IMO, it's so much nicer to be in the parks when the temp is in the 60's than when it's in the 10000000's.
