I know this has been asked before but I thought I would get a little more specific. We are going to Disneyland for the first time next October, we are adult WDW vets. How many days do you think would be good to explore both parks? Also do you recommend park hoppers?

Park hoppers are a must. The gates for each park are a couple minute walk from each other. I would say 3-4 days minimum. During the week hours will be 9-8 with earlier closures for the Halloween parties 2 days a week. I'd definitely include a Saturday or Sunday to see Fantasmic! (much better than WDWs) and fireworks.

I agree with pp....3-4 days is good (I prefer 4 full days with children). And also as said the gates for each park are just across the esplanade from one another. We go back and forth each day, it's almost like just going to a different 'land' within DL. Nothing like travelling to different parks at WDW.
Have fun!

Our first trip to DLR was this past Oct. We are also WDW vets and were not sure how long we would need in the parks but we had 3 comp tickets from our WDW CM days so 3 was the magic number ;)

We also did the Halloween party one day and we got in the park at 3PM. It ended up being a full day of just Disneyland, the Halloween party at DLand (3-10PM), a full day at CA and a day split between the 2 parks (mostly CA). We had PHs and it was nice to be able to hop on that last day but not necessary. We would have been ok with CA for 2 days and DLand the one day plus Halloween party night.
