Megan will be 5 months when we go to WDW with her in September.

We are flying with Virgin and have a skycot booked for her. However i wasnt sure what the rules/regulations are regarding travelling with infant formula?

Ive always made sure anything that we cannot cope without (medications, glasses etc) are always in our hand luggage. Obviously the formula would be the same, if it was packed in a case that then went missing it would be a nightmare :scared1:

The powder would be in a sealed container (assuming i cannot take a half used carton?) within our hand luggage restrictions so would there be any problems with this? Would i need to declare it on the way into the USA?

Also what would everyone recommend for the flight? Purchasing some of the ready made cartons? Powder in powder dispensers? Or just an extra carton of formula?

It was 2008 the last time that we travelled with formula but I don't think things have changed that much.

I took cartons and security made me throw them away, luckily I had got my Avent dispenser with three lots of measured powder.

I just packed the rest of the tins in the suitcases, I don't think I took an open tin ( but tbh I can't remember :goodvibes)

HTH
gems :)

We flew from Manchester last year, we phoned up and ordered cartons in advance to collect from Boots airside. Any that we didn't use on flight, i disposed of. Took powdered formula in case (sealed, new box) and declared it on white form, they asked what it was I was declaring and when I said, the guy wrote some code intial on the form, told me to show it to some other guy who said it was fine and waved us on through.
On the way home, i simply decanted powder into my two powder dispensers, no problem. Then we bought bottled water airside to make it up with, although I am sure the airline would make it up if you requested. My DD was 9 months old so wasn't having milk as her main food, but still took maybe 3 bottles a day.

Those Avent 3 compartment dispensers are great. The powder and bottled water is also a good idea rather than the ready mixed cartons, although these are great for on the flight if you can make sure you get your brand airside.

At 5 months it is still fairly early stages to switch to a different formula all of a sudden on your trip of your own brand is not available - which it probably won't be.

Just a note if you take powder, take a sealed tin and then open and dispense it AFTER security. They can be funny about powders which show up on the scanners and it is much easier if the tin is sealed if the do call you aside to show it.

I can't offer any advice re: formula but wanted to say 'Hi' seeing as we're also going in Sept and taking our youngest DD for the first time, although she will be almost 14 months by the time we go (3rd Sept)

make sure you try megan on the premade cartons before you fly as it makes mine sick as its got some extra stuff in it to make it last which didnt agree with the girls

Thanks for the advice everyone! :goodvibes

We took cartons of formula in our hand luggage for our son in July 2008 without any problems. We flew with virgin atlantic. We also carried enough formula in our checked luggage for the entire trip. You'll have no trouble taking sealed cartons on board. We did have milk already in a bottle when we took our daughter as a baby in 2006 and were made to take a sip from the bottle to prove it was baby milk. We learned our lesson and made sure that we took unopened milk only through security the second time. Have a fantastic trip.
