First trip to the fort has begun!

I'm jealous! I wish I could talk my extended parents and sister into camping at FW! I hope everybody in your group is having a great time!

Love reading about all the adventure's. Makes my trip seem even further away and well it is less than 120 days from now. popcorn::

time will go by fast! it feels like I made my dining reservations just yesterday! and here we are, halfway through our trip :)

ahhh, Day 4 was truly magical. we spent the entire day at the Magic Kingdom! the kids were absolute troopers. We started with a late breakfast at Crystal Palace and then made our way around MK. The crowd levels were great and we did a ton! we walked on to a lot of attractions and just had a wonderful day. Capped the day off with the new castle lighting ceremony - WOW - the castle looks amazing!! and then watched the Electrical Parade (a very nice surprise since it was not previously scheduled) and Wishes. The boat ride back to the fort made for the perfect way to wind down after the big day! the next two days are light park days for us, so we definitely plan to spend some time enjoying the amenities and activities of the fort. Hopefully some swimming, maybe a pony ride for the kids, and likely the campfire and singalong tomorrow night. :)

We had the most wonderful time at the fort the 23-28. We were there with my parents and my daddy's sister and husband. We were in the 200 loop and it was the PERFECT time at the Fort.
We truly enjoyed every moment. We can't wait to be there again. Have a wonderful time! Take lots of pictures and savor the small moments they make precious memories.

Boo :( Day 5 is almost behind us and I am starting to get those "oh no, it is almost over!!!" thoughts running through my head. Only one more full day before we head home on Saturday.

But, let's focus this post on the positive!! Today we ventured to Animal Kingdom. We took our time getting out this morning (are you noticing a trend with the lazy mornings??? :)) and left around 11am. A bus arrived pretty quickly and away we went! we had fun going through the different areas of the park. The Lion King show was especially AMAZING. One thing I am noticing on this first trip with little ones is that each park has SO MUCH "extra stuff" going on. "street shows" like dancers, acrobats, etc. I guess I had always gone so quickly from big ride to big ride on prior trips, that I never was moving slowly enough to really notice this before. the kids make us move at a slower pace and it has been so nice to discover this other side to the parks. Seeing the pure joy on their little faces when doing the simplest of things truly makes me appreciate this experience even more.

As for the fort, we spent some time touring on one of the golf carts our extended family rented. we saw some amazing decorations and "santa" himself! there is a man in the 300 loop who bears a close resemblance and he even played along with the kids. so great!! we came back from AK in time for dinner and had a bbq. we had intended to go to the campfire and singalong tonight, but we got back too late and were too exhausted. it looks like we will not get to experience that on this trip and that is one of the reasons I am feeling sad our time is coming to an end. but i know it is impossible to do everything!

tomorrow we are back to MK to do a few things we have not yet had a chance to do and take lots of pictures! I also want to do a little shopping :)

Oh no, the dreaded it's almost over, I don't want to go. All good things must come to an end sooner or later. Hoping that you had a great time and that you will come and visit the Fort again. I did some looping last night and tonight, but don't think I did the 200 loop. Would like to meet up with some other members, let me know and I can stop in before you leave. I was reading along and glad you enjoyed your stay.

I have to say one of the best things about staying at FW is the boat to MK, WL and CR. Sometimes we would just take the boat to MK and back to FW. It was so relaxing and a great place to watch the fireworks if the timing is right.
Cant beat the laid back atmosphere and the friendly guest at the fort either.

Hello everyone! sorry I went MIA :) The end of our trip is a blur and then it was back to reality last week! However, I did want to come back to wrap up our trip report.

Our final day took us back to the MK for a few final to-dos on our checklist. We only spent a few hours in the afternoon at the park and did do each of the items we intended to do that day, which were important to me. One - meet talking Mickey. Two - get the souvenier profile art/cut outs they do in the alley on main street. Three - get some family pics in our family T-shirts. While I was thrilled to accomplish everything we set out to do that day, I would have preferred to have done them earlier in the trip and had a full down day at the fort. I think having a do nothing day right at the end of the trip would work perfectly for my family. Now we know for next time :)

as for the fort, we enjoyed the loop in the morning and spent some time with our family that was also there. and then came back to the fort for dinner and ate at Trail's End. It was very good and exactly what we needed for our final night! My daughter fell asleep at dinner and my son was ready for bed pretty soon after dinner, so I stayed at the camper and my husband went down to watch and video the Christmas Party fireworks from the marina. I still have not had a chance to watch the video - but he said they were amazing. they were certainly loud pixiedust: haha.

all in all, we had a wonderful trip and a GREAT stay at the fort in our rented camper! My husband is ready to go back :) I also very much enjoyed it, but I do admit to being someone who likes to try out different places. so, who knows what we will do next trip! I have no doubt we will return to the fort at some point. THANK YOU to everyone on this board for your posts and helpful advice. while I did not do much posting, I definitely did a good bit of reading and research on this board to prepare for this trip and appreciated everyone's posts. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Couldn't agree more!!! :)

sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up snowmedic! it sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I was glad to read you made it home safely. thanks for your trip report - it was fun reading along.

100 loop must be really great!

The 100 loop is the best IMO ;) We love the 'closeness' to the action!!

Glad you had an enjoyable trip and made it safely home - will be a great trip of memories!! :)

The 'draw' will always be there at FW - it's a little addictive! pixiedust:

. . . Everyone we have spoken to is very nice . . .

1) That is why The Fort is my favorite resort.
2) It is FIRST AND FOREMOST a campground, and a Disney resort secondary.
3) So vastly different than staying at a "hotel" resort and barely meeting people.
4) At The Fort,
. . . people talk to one another
. . . folks say hello and wave
. . . you can meet-and-get-to-know your neighbors
. . . people help each other
. . . kids get to meet other kidsand actually play together during the vacation
. . . you can actually make friends

PS - It is also my favorite working assignment(s) at WDW.

My DW and I are exactly the same. Have friends with a seasonal campsite at a local lake. That would make me crazy doing the same thing every time.

We have settled on every other year at the Fort. We have extended the days at the Fort from our typical 6 (Sun-Sat) To 9 or 10 (Friday-Sun). Trips don't feel so rushed and we have plenty of time to get our Disney fill. That usually holds us for a year or so. The in between years we go to a beach somewhere, since we like the ocean almost as much as WDW.

That is a really great idea! any ideas that allow for us to stay longer definitely work for me :)

I very much agree! I have traveled a lot for work and hotels definitely do not lend themselves to interacting with people as easily as the campground does.

all of the cast members we spoke with at the fort were great! i don't think we ran into anyone named Rusty, but maybe we will next time :)

Thank you! and yes, we too love to be close to the action. we absolutely did not miss having a rental car or a golf cart since we were so close to what we needed. I LOVED the location.
