First Trip to DL - solo (COMPLETE) new link p.43

The tour sounds great. What a shame that Peter Pan was down, but it is great that you got a Fastpass. I love the pin.

Corinna

I thought for certain they'd forgotten all about Peter Pan. We had stood out in the sun for maybe 10-15 minutes and then it went down. Not long at all but I'm still glad they gave us a FP.

Its a beautiful pin, a nice touch to include that with the tour.

Thank you for sharing your tour with us! So interesting. I bet you could have done with another massage after all that walking! Glad Jo and I aren't the only ones that can't last till they give you food. We find the parks so exhausting we are refuelling every 5 minutes! Never eaten so much in our lives! In the end we bought loads of snacks like m & m's for Jo reeces pieces for me and mixed them in ziplock bags with cheerios and barnums animals, dried fruit etc. i always had one hand in that bag!

The pin was lovely but well done for asking for one in mint condition I would have done also!

Great photos shame its a dark policy some places! The tour looks fab. Very ambitious! They pack a lot in don't they. Lots of bang for your buck!

Did you go back and use your peter pan FP?

I eat so much at the parks and on the cruises and always come back a few pounds less. It doesn't seem like all that much but it's a lot of walking! Your goodie bag sounds like a fabulous combination popcorn:: Yes, I thought the same thing about needing another massage after the tour, I almost booked another one but restrained myself

I would have taken so many pictures of Walt's apartment, I was really bummed about the new photo rule. They did pack a lot into the tour. I'm so glad I asked for another pin.

I went straight to Peter Pan after we finished eating. That'll be in the next update.

oh great re Peter pan. Looking forward to that!

It is a shame about Walt's apartment and no photos. But maybe it helps preserve the glorious detail for longer. I heard people say the flash photography can damage pictures , art and material. I bet you were very tired when you hit Peter Pan!

Pam what was the tour called you did? The one that included club 33 and Walt's apartment.

Wow - I can only imagine how moving parts of that tour must have been. I get choked up during the movie in One Man's Dream, I can only imagine being in Walt's apartment in his first park. He actually cried because people were coming to the park. WOW. *sniff sniff*

Thanks for sharing the tour in so much detail. Too bad it was hot. That makes it tough. When I did KTTK tour it was in January and the weather was perfect. I can't imagine doing it in the heat.

The chaise lounges at the pool look awesome. WOW!

Great day Pam. Really enjoyed this update!

Walk in Walt's Disneyland Footsteps. They offer a DVC discount on it too.
cool! Have to do that!

Hey Pam look what arrived today from Amazon...

Me too about One Man's Dream, always get choked up. I know, I almost lost it after hearing that story. The tour was definitely worth taking.

It was just a lot of walking and it was so hot! I felt like I was breaking the rules running off to get a soda while the other group was in Club 33 but I wasn't going to make it. I did a tour in WDW in January too and it was perfect.

The chaise lounges at the pool look awesome. WOW!

Oh my goodness about those loungers, they were so plush! :lovestruc

Great day Pam. Really enjoyed this update!

Thanks so much :goodvibes lots more to the day though, I went off for more fun after the tour.

I've been wanting to comment on all these things, but haven't had time at my computer to actually sit down and find the comments I wanted to say something about. Now that I'm back home and feeling icky and sick, we are taking a TV day (and catching up on two bins of mail) so I've been able to gather my thoughts. It's taken me all day to write this post.

It was a little weird because everything was very similar to WDW but different at the same time. It was a lot of fun seeing all the differences.

This is how I feel every time I go into MK at WDW!

I spied an entrance to the Dream Suite, I didnt' know anything about it but it looked cool.

I've been inside, it's really nice. I have pictures if you want to see them.

Interesting pirates has more but I guess it was the original one before wdw I am guessing as the park is older?

Pirates at DL opened on March 18, 1967. It was one of the last rides that Walt actually had a part in creating, even though he never saw it completed. It is partnered with the Blue Bayou which is a restaurant that is fashioned after a backyard Dinner Party at a Southern Plantation. It fits perfectly into the whole New Orleans Square theme.

When MK was designed the Imagineers thought Florida was too close to NOLA to create a similar land, so Liberty Square was created instead. They planned to put in a ride in Adventureland called the Western River Expedition. However once the MK opened, park goers asked, "Where is the Pirate Ride?" So they had to scrap the Western River Expedition and put in Pirates instead.

We were considering the expo in either 2015 or 2016 maybe our paths will cross!

The Expo is every two years, so the next one is 2015, there won't be one in 2016. The links above were from a seminar at the 2011 Expo.

Yes, Star Tours has been updated like at WDW, I believe DL did theirs first.

They did them concurrently, but WDW's opened a few days before. I happened to be there while WDW did a soft opening. It was a bigger deal in DL, they did Grand Openings, AP special preview days and stuff, but it was about the same week in May when they opened.

I was glad I chanced it because I found the pool shortly. They have all the entrances to the pool gated off where you have to use your room key to get in. It was a little annoying at times, but I’m sure the pool would be swamped with park goers if it wasn’t gated off.

This is one reason, but the other is California Law. Any pool needs a fence of like 5 feet or higher around it blocking all access. I know this because we just bought a house with a pool. :rolleyes1

I had at least thirty minutes to kill so headed into a shop Alison had pointed out the day before. There was this very cool bank vault in there. I thought it was really pretty.

This is the New Disneyana store, they just moved it from the middle of main street, I think to make room for the new Starbucks. This used to be an actual working bank and that was a real vault for the bank. From 1955 to 1993 it was sponsored by Bank of America.

The rest of the tour sounded great and sure that you enjoyed your time in Walt's apartment. I'm glad you were able to go in there. I have some pictures from when we were in the apartment before they didn't allow photos, if you want me to post them.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, were you sick on your trip? How did it go?

Yes please!

I don't think a Western ride would be as timeless as Pirates.

I definitely think this needs to be in my plans for 2015.

I wonder why they didn't make a bigger deal about it in WDW, it certainly needed an update.

This is one reason, but the other is California Law. Any pool needs a fence of like 5 feet or higher around it blocking all access. I know this because we just bought a house with a pool. :rolleyes1

Ahhhhhhh, I'm glad your pool came with walls :)

I thought it was so pretty. Interesting that they had a real bank in the park. I guess not everyone had charge cards back then.

I remember when you did that, I was so jealous! Please, if it's not too much trouble. I'm so glad Fran suggested the tour, being in the apartment was very very special.

The tour looks fun! :thumbsup2 Jolly Holliday twice? Too funny.

I am just loving all of your photos and descriptions- feels like I'm there.

Did you use the Peter Pan FP?

I remember looking at So Cal weather that week and it was a hot one.

We have used those exact grills twice at the GCV. Once we did burgers but forgot the ketchup and went on a search. Storytellers Cafe ended up giving us these tiny bottles of ketchup and mustard.

Love WWS especially their chicken nachos. I know you don't do meat but they've got tons of beans and pics, cheese and sour cream. You must try them next time. We Tae them three times during one trip.

And I agree the GCV pool loungers are heaven!

She doesn't like beans either! :sad2: We went out for Mexican the last night and she got double rice! :rotfl2: Nachos probably aren't her favorite, but someday I'll have to try them!

No beans either? :lmao: Their nachos are so good. Not healthy but so worth it!

What a fantastic past two days! A guided park tour and lunch at Club 33 with Alison and then a tour of Walt's Apartment?! It looks and sounds like you had such an amazing time.
