First trip to Disney!!!! Lots of questions

We're coming from the Nashville area. We're actually leaving from Ashland City, which is where we are dropping our dogs off at the kennel. I was going to use Map Quest for directions. I have purchased an atlas, but I have not opened it yet. I am most worried about driving through Atlanta. Everyone says it's horrible depending on the time of day. I think we may stop after 8 hours of driving and check into a hotel for the night in either GA or FL depending on how far we make it. I think driving straight through with a 6-year-old may be too much.

If you leave after a kennel opens (8-10ish a.m. CDT??), you should get to Atl mid-day EDT, between the rushes. So you should be ok to go straight through on I-75. If y'all have any experience with Nashville interstate traffic, you'll definitely be fine in Atl at non-rush hr. I read on another thread here, to tune to AM750 for good traffic reports in Metro Atlanta. Haven't used it myself, but I plan to try it on our next trip through. But if you do hear of any major tie-ups, it should be easy enough to re-route out to the loop around town.

Another route tip: we found the Florida Turnpike off I-75 is great, much better than getting through Orlando on I-4. From 75 take exit #267 to tollroad 429, then take exit #8 to Western Way. This delivers you right to a Disney gate. The various tolls are several dollars (I think about $4-8 total?), but we found it's worth it, for an easy drive in MUCH less traffic!

I have no plan of action as to what to see where and when. I am planning Mickey's Philharmagic, Soarin at Epcot, the Safari at Animal Kingdom, and the Kim Possible thing at Epcot. I think I'll try to work in the monorail, and everyone has told us to ride the train in the Magic Kingdom. So, that's all I have so far. We do not like roller coasters, so tame rides are best for us.

I am SUPER excited. This trip was 3 years in the making, so I am thrilled I hope to go back again in another year or so at Christmas time. I hear it is gorgeous.

Does anyone know what the weather is like in FL in Sept??

All those attractions you mentioned are great! There are tons of tame rides, so you'll find lots more you and your little girl will want to experience. Even the Big Thunder Mtn Railroad (coaster) is mild... but like a previous poster said, stay clear of Exp.Everest and Rock-n-Rollercoaster! My DNephew got a huge kick out of Kim Possible Adventures, and we did too.

And Christmas time is fabulous! You'll want to plan that trip as soon as you get home from this one.

I haven't been in Sept, but plan on buying or packing ponchos, no matter when you go.

Hi my fam is driving from tennessee too (nashville) Oct 3rd -9th and im a NEWBIE as well, we have no clue what to expect but im very excited, we will be staying off disney property but plan to visit MK,AK, Epcot, Seaworld, Dhs.

We rented a car being its only me, hubby, 7yr old son, i love the board its so helpful, We did not do the ADR even though now i wish we did but again im a newbie because we are using the military tickets and the hotel we are staying in have free b-fast and i figure we nibble thru the day until we leave and go eat dinner. Next year we will do the Adr and probably stay on property as well... Have fun!!! Which way are u going and where in Tennessee do u live?
