First trip magic?

The last time I went to WDW was a decade ago for my honeymoon and the cast members went out of their way to make it special. For instance, we missed the last bus of the night one night and the manager at our resort gave us free tickets for an extra day. A couple different rides the cast members took us to the front of the line or let us ride twice in a row. I love it!

So I'm going with my 7 year old son in a couple months and it's not only his first trip, but we're both celebrating some personal milestones. Guest services keep telling me on the phone to get buttons at check in (or wherever) because "you never know what sort of magic might happen."

So I was wondering what sort of first time magic (or magic related to celebrating something special, birthdays, etc.) that you might have experienced? I'm so excited just thinking of the great experiences my son will have!

PS: I apologize if this is in the wrong place, but it was kiddo related, so I thought it would fit in here ^__^

Last year, our group of 11 was brought to the front of the line for Everest when we were trying to get fast passes. Our kids were constantly being talked to and asked if they were having a good day. Magic was everywhere if you were paying attention. Definitely wear the pins!

For birthdays we always get cupcakes or a dessert at our TS and lots of happy birthdays throughout the day.

We went for my parents anniversary one year and at Coral Reef they gave all 6 adults a champagne toast, that was really nice! :cool1:

We stayed at BC club level last year and had a ton of trouble with magic bands during our stay (didn't let DS into Epcot even after they said the problem was fixed) so when we returned to the room concierge had left a stuffed Pluto and Mickey and two balloons for my boys.

Hope you have a magical trip!:goodvibes

My children and I wore our "first visit" pins each day, and nothing out of the ordinary happened at all.

But, I'm a make your own magic type of person, so the trip was absolutely still magical!!

There is a fairy god mother thread on these boards. Def try to get that! Someone will send a postcard for your kids before your trip, from their fav character. We got some last year for our kids and they were thrilled that Mickey/princesses etc wrote them to say how excited they were about their upcoming trip!
A nice way to add a little magic! :)

When my daughter wore her birthday pin for turning 6, EVERYONE said happy birthday all day!! We got picked for special seating at the Lion King show (though that was random magic and not birthday related) and then she was chosen to teach the hand jive to the audience and do the giraffe sound in the show because of the pin. She loved it - she's a total ham. She also got to "open" the pool at CBR with a cool pirate hat and patch and sword and a signed certificate from Mickey. I think she got dessert a couple of places that week, too.

Even if it's not your birthday, there are other pins and I so recommend wearing them. Last trip we had the "I'm Celebrating" pins and wrote different things on them with Sharpie - like DISNEY MAGIC, THE FOOD, NO SCHOOL, ROLLERCOASTERS - whatever struck us that day. Lots of CMs chatted with us about it - and it was fun to celebrate the little stuff, too!

I hope you have a fantastic trip and experience some wonderful magic.

With that I wanted to say that when my kids wore the first visit buttons no one said or did anything. On a different trip my other child had a happy birthday button and again nothing from anyone. Now that was fine with us - we weren't expecting anything but I did want to tell you that with higher crowds and more people that not everyone has their special moments acknowledged in some way. Didn't want you to be disappointed if it doesn't get acknowledged.

Definitely do the Fairy Godmailer! http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23

But, to be honest, you don't need any "extra" magic. Don't go expecting or hoping for it. Disney World is magical enough in and of itself.

The best magic we ever received at WDW was our last trip. My husband experienced a medical crisis and ended up in the ER. The staff at the Beach Club went above and beyond to help us cope.

Next to that, towel animals and pixie dust pale in comparison. They helped us as much as humanly possible when we most needed help. And they'll have our eternal loyalty for their kindness.

So don't sweat the other stuff. Supply your own magic.

Get a copy of WDW for Kids-- I bet there's still time for the Easter Bunny to find one. Start stockpiling Disney gift cards-- Easter, Mother's Day, good report card, any excuse you can find. You'll be amazed at how quickly the spending money adds up.

Take a look at getting a Memory Maker package. It's a wonderful way to ensure that the whole family ends up in the pictures, and they do a great job with some of the trick shots.

Also, hit either amazon or Walmart.com and pick up a MistyMate personal mister, or even one each: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Misty-2.5-Personal-Mister/19715437 You'll be there at about the same time we will and they'll make a HUGE difference in your trip.

Likewise, stockpile some disposable rain ponchos. You may be very glad you did! I like the Walmart ones (as opposed to the dollar store ones) -- at my Walmart at least, they come 2 to a pack and take less room. I normally get 3 or 4 a person for our weeklong summer trip. Some times I use them all, some times I don't.

Have a fabulous trip!

When we went for DD's 4th birthday she wore the pin and was wished a HAPPY BIRTHDAY all day! We did BBB that year and the CMs went out of their way to wish her a happy birthday and everyone referred to her as "princess". I think the pins are really nice and we will be getting the Birthday pin for our son who will be turning 3 right after our trip but I think it's really just the way they operate. Once DD was allowed to ride Big Thunder Mt Railroad but then they wouldnt let her on Splash Mt. She was soooo disappointed and they gave her a voucher to spend in the gift shop on a little something to make up for it. During another trip (our first with DD then 23 months) we went to the Meet & Greet for Visa Card members at Epcot and after her initial excitement of seeing Minnie and Goofy she started asking "Where's Mickey House?" (btw, Goofy was "Goopy")The next day we went back again hoping for different characters but again it was Minnie and Goofy. DD asked again, "Where's Mickey House?" and the CM laughed and said "Oh THIS is the Mickey House girl?" They told us to come back in 45 minutes (after the scheduled Meet and Greet hours) for a special surprise. When we returned we were greeted by Mickey and Pluto. DD was beyond excited and to this day I still get teary eyed when I think about it. They brought Mickey out just for her :) That had nothing to do with the pins, that's just how they roll.

Have a great trip!
