We will be taking our 1st trip to disney in Sept '07 (14th - 20th). We have 7 in the family, 1 -16yr old, 1-9yr old, 1- 7yr old (she will be turning 8 while there) and 3 yr old twins...(5 girls/1boy)..We will be staying at FW in the RV. Looking for any tips or ideas of what to expect while there. We are new to the RV and need as much input as we can get. Please give us ideas even if you think it is dumb...we might not have thought of it.

Should we stock up on the bug repelants?
Would a mosquito deleto be in order to bring (we don't plan on every day at the parks)?

Should we request one area over another (loops)?

What will crowds be like at this time..should I pack extra tolerance? :>)

We are leaving from the Phila area, mapquest says it's a 16hour drive.. anyone know if that is close?

What are the fun things do on a rainy or off day from the parks? We do not have a tow veh and $ wont be there for a rental?

Any help would be great...thanks in advance!!

We stayed at the campground in 2002 we were in loop 600. Loop 100 is right next to Pioneer Hall and Settlement trading post and buses. I think it is a prefered loop. The loop we were in wasn't bad we had our dd6 who was 20mths at the time after a couple of days we ended up renting a golf cart after a couple of days. We would drive from our loop to the trading post and park for the day and take the bus or boat to the parks. The bus stops around the campground when we stayed took you to the front gate or to pioneer hall to catch the park buses. I don't know if they still do it this way but that was one of the reasons we rented the golf cart to keep from walking back at night.

Take a little bug spray, but don't worry too much. Disney does a good job of spraying for skeeters. You'll probably see love bugs in Sept, though, but they are not a biting bug.

Crowds should be pretty light unless there is something special going on--you'll be after Labor Day and the kids will be back in school.

Lots to do on an off day--enjoy FW! Walk, bike (if you can take them), swim, fish, hit the playgrounds, do the campfire with Chip and Dale, see the movie, play on the beach, ride a pony, visit the stables, well, you get the idea. You can also catch a launch to the Contemporary and visit there. Hit the arcade, ride the escalators, check out the shops, ride the monorail, eat or get snacks. You can also ride the launch to the Lodge and see the geysers, check out the lobby, shop, eat, etc.

As far as what loop to request, what type of rv do you have? Do you want cable? Want to be close to a bus stop, pool, comfort station??? Fort Wilderness has a variety of loops--just decide what features are important to you.

Have fun planning and welcome to the Dis!

Welcome
We will be there the 16th to 22nd for out annual trip. We like loop 1000 because it is in the middle of the resort. The mosquitos are not bad, but I would have some spray if you were out after dust. The crowds are very low and most rides are walk on or very little wait. Knock on wood, for the last 4-year we have not had a rain day while we were there. Which mean that it will rain every day this year. Our rain plan is to don our rain gear and keep going if we are in the parks. Most rain shower in Fl. are short and the sun is back out in no time. We like to resort hop, Downtown Disney, Water Parks and just hanging around FW for our days off. There is a lot todo, Enjoy

I live in south jersey and it takes me about 20 hours of driving.I tow a 5th wheel. Last year I left at midnite made it to jacksonville. The next day it took about 3 hours.I stop for fuel at the flying j's in virginia, south carolina, georgia and florida, they usually have the cheapest price for gas and diesel.I always enjoy the drive down and back,I'm one of the few that do.I'll be going down again in september.I always get a perferred site I think it's worth the extra money.:cool2:

I get my food and supplies from wal-mart in kissimee,it's about 5 miles from WDW.I would stop there before you check in.Make sure you check out your motorhome before you leave.I had a blow out on the way down last year,it's not fun.I replaced all my trailer tires down in florida before the return trip.My tires were 8 years old, they say to replace them after 7 years, I learned the hard way.Changing a tire on the side of the road is no fun.Have a safe trip and have lots of fun at the world.

Ram101, I'll be there the 16th to the 28th.I asked for a perferred site. They are loops 100-500.Look me up and say hi.This will be my 8th trip, if you have any questions maybe I can help you out.I have a dodge ram(white) and a prowlerregal 5th wheel trailer.Do you own a dodge? Is it a diesel?SO many questions.I look forward to hearing back from you.By the way I lived in philly for 38 years, moved across the bridge in 1989.I still work in philly.

800 is also a preffered loop, really the big difference between preferred and full hook up is cable and price, site size varies within every loop. Some people like to be close to the dock/Pioneer Hall area other preferr to be close to the Meadows recreation area(bike barn, pool, campfire show Meadows Trading Post). When requesting a loop I think you need to decide what is best for your family and request that rather than specific sites/loops. If your 1st priority is to be close to the pool ask for that, with your large family you may find it more important to be close to a comfort station(showers, bathroom, laundry). While Disney tries to honor request it is hard to get them all, so whatever is most important to you is what you need to request 1st. Site type, preffered, full, partial hook up are not request but a level of "service" with price difference just like hotel rooms.

We will be traveling in the Coachman Santara, Class C... Anyone can recognize us...we will be the ones pulling our hair out with all the kids pulling at our shirts!! HA HA :>)
Thank you again!!
