Okay....heading to SSR January 17th-24th. Six of us, DH, me, three DS's and DD. Here are my questions:

1. We are planning to pack very light and do lots of laundry, was going to send ahead box with laundry detergent, wipes for general cleanup, do I need dishwasher stuff too? We will be on DDP so probably breakfast only in the room.

2. Paper Towels and napkins? Are they there, do I need to order from Garden Grocer?

3. Do I really need those cute refillabe mugs. We used them EVERY DAY last trip but.....had a car we could take them in to the parks, and leave them in. Not renting a car this time around.

4. Golf? Doing WP & M so DH and boys can play the 9 hole course. Not bringing our on clubs. Can we rent? Do cabs go to 9 hole course too with no charge?

What is the Turf Club bar and lounge like? DH and I would like to go for an occasional libation. Kids are 14, 10, 8 and 6 so if we are close enough building wise ( i requested congress park or springs) we may venture over.

Lets see, planning on bringing, a pair or shorts, a pair of jeans, a pair of capris, 1 long sleeve tee, 1 short sleeve tee, 1 sweatshirt, 1 rainjacket and bathing suit. Of course jammies , socks and undies ( sorry if TMI) Washing often of course. Kids and DH same plan.

Thoughts?

1. Dishwasher stuff will be provided. We've only stayed at "hotel resorts" where it's easier to go down the hall to track the housekeeping CM's and they've always given us extra packets of dishwasher stuff when we've asked.

2. Paper towels will be provided. We use them as napkins.:goodvibes

I can't help with your other questions. Have a great trip!

We've been third week of January & we took our refillable mugs along but it really didn't seem as necessary to us as when we travel during summer months; we could have done without them. Our kids who love having them during hot weather times (as I do) might have filled them once or twice at most. DH & I used ours once.

For clothing I'd say you've got it covered pretty well - maybe an extra short sleeve t or two. Definitely a pair of gloves because sometimes early mornings or evenings can get rather chilly & closed shoes or sneakers. Our kids liked have their sweats at the pool to pull on after getting out of the water because they felt chilled quickly.

AP we think has one of the best resort counter service menus :thumbsup2 ( we also like Pepper Market at CSR ). Haven't tried TC but it looked very nice & have read favorably reviews. Check out allears.net for menus at both counter service & sit-down locations.

Enjoy your trip pixiedust:

No. Dishwasher stuff will be provided in the room.

Paper towels will be there. Napkins will not be, but we usually just grab a few extras from a fast food location on our first day.

3. Do I really need those cute refillabe mugs. We used them EVERY DAY last trip but.....had a car we could take them in to the parks, and leave them in. Not renting a car this time around.
While we are avid mug-users at non-DVC resorts we find that they just aren't worth it at the DVC properties. You'll have a refrigerator so you can store your own beverages, plus the hike to fill up your mug at SSR can be long. I'd skip them.

4. Golf? Doing WP & M so DH and boys can play the 9 hole course. Not bringing our on clubs. Can we rent? Do cabs go to 9 hole course too with no charge?
Can't help...but I'm guessing they rent clubs.

It's very nice. Enjoy!

I would probably bring a couple pair of shorts and a couple extra shirts, but otherwise I think your plan is a good one. We like to pack light and do laundry too. I LOVE coming home with only a load or two of dirty clothes!

Have a great trip!

THANKS Crafty Mouse! Great tips! Especially with the mugs. Now I just need to convince my kids that they don't need them!

I'm surprised to hear that there is dish soap and papertowels provided that will last a whole week??

So I am there 10 nights, in a 2 bedroom renting a DVC's points which I understand means no mousekeeping - but garbage collection on day 4 and 8.....

so I will be provided dish soap to last me 10 nights? I don't think so.....

We are not on DDP so lots of meals will be made in our unit.

here's what i found:

For stays of seven or fewer nights, Trash and Towel Service is provided on day four. With this service, Housekeeping will

Empty the trash and put new liners in the wastebaskets
Provide fresh bathroom towels
Replace shampoo, facial soap and bath soap
Replenish facial tissues, paper towels, and toilet paper
Replenish coffee, sugar, and cream
Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent, sponges, and laundry detergent as applicable

For stays of eight or more nights, Full Cleaning Service is provided on day four and Trash and Towel Service is provided on day eight. After that, the cycle begins again on day 12. With Full Cleaning Service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash and Towel Service, plus

Change the bed linens
Vacuum and dust
Clean the bathroom(s)
Clean the kitchen/ette and wash the dishes

there is not daily mousekeeping but they do check in on you in one form or the other every 4 days or so...

yup. and if you really NEED mousekeeping in the meantime, you can do fee-for-service. we never have, but it is there as an option. and if you are in a one bedroom or larger (with washer/dryer), you can always wash up whatever in the way of linens and towels.
