First trip for 1 yr old....

We are going to WDW on the last week of September. It will be my son's first time in WDW (hopefully the first of many trips). Below is what I have so far.

Coming in on Sunday and Leaving Friday.
Staying at the VWL.
Tried to get into CRT but no luck .
Made reservations for Crystal Palace, Ohana's, and Whispering Canyon.
I am going to bring him to the MK barber shop for his first haircut.

That is all I have planned so far. Any other tips to make it a more magical time would be greatly appreciated.

We took our 9 month old in May. A character breakfast/dinner is a must. I think you have one at Crystal Palace. The Pooh characters are great! Take lots of pictures- my daughter loved the big mickey/minnie balloons that you could buy on Main Street. Get a silouhette (sp?) done on Main Street.
I have one from my first trip to Disney (back in the 70's) and have one from my son's first trip, but missed getting my daughter one. (We'll have to go back!) Have a great time!

We took our 23 month old DS last January. We highly recommend Crystal Palace Breakfast and the Barber Shop. Our DS is VERY active and they managed to him to sit still the whole time. We are still trying to figure out how to get back once a month just to get his hair cut. We also did Whispering Canyon. It was fun for us but lost on our DS. Other things that were big hits with our DS:

MK fireworks
Teacups - rode it twice (we took it easy on the spinning)
The lights in the sidewalk at EPCOT
The play area at Mission: Space
Buzz Lightyear - rode it three times (He was in charge of the lever that turned the car)
The jumping fountains at EPCOT
Lion King at AK

We spent a lot of time with the not so obvious treasures around the world...watching the windmills behind Spaceship Earth in EPCOT, walking on retaining walls, watching ducks at MK. Keep an eye out for the little things, they seem to be a big hit.

Eeyore.......do you know how much they charge for the silhouette?

Also, does anyone know where they do caricatures and how much they cost?

Chef Mickey? We took our little guy to breakfast there and he was agog. If it hasn't changed, they have an energetic dance number every so often that Sean loved participating in. Plenty of characters and decent food. The silhouettes make great souvenirs and are very reasonable although I don't recall the exact amount.

Just wanted to add that the first haircut at the Barbershop is a great idea. We did that for my DS first trip and it was one of the highlights for mom! DS took a little nap while we were waiting and we got to see the barbershop quartet sing. Then it was just extra special treatment for my little guy when he got his haircut and mickey ears!!!

Other suggestions would be Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace (Pooh's gang). Make sure you ride It's a Small World - wonderful colors / movement to watch!

Having done this with DDs of varing ages...I would say CP is a must. The pooh characters are just great for that age! Dumbo, unfortunately is a must see for my DD age 2, has been since we took her at a year. The whole fantasyland especially Pooh ride.

What she did not like was fireworks at 1 yo. We watched from Cosmic Rays and my DH stayed inside with her. At Epcot she was out cold for Illuminations but we put on Ear muffs anyway.

We had Mickey sign her stroller in honor of her first trip at 4 months and her sisters got a bang out of that!
