Going for the first time to WDW in Nov w/ husband and 10 and 14 yo kids. I make ADRs on Thur and so far have not chosen one character meal. I'm on the fence about planning one in because my kids are older and not interested in characters for one. For two, they all seem to be buffets and my 10 year old eats like a baby bird so paying adult buffet prices are ouch! we are doing OOP, not dining plan.
BUT....I almost feel like I'm being sacrilegious going to Disney w/o doing a character meal! :scared1: Everybody seems to be so crazy about them. So...I've looked at our schedule and whatnot and if we were to do one, then the Tusker House one is the only one that would fit in nicely. I just don't know though?? Do you think my older (non character chasing) kids would think it's corny? Is it worth it to pay so much per person for a 10 yo that will eat 3 pieces of bacon and maybe a pastry?

I really love this breakfast! My daughter, who is 10 but considers herself a "tween", who doesn't want to do autographs this year and is way too cool for princesses, is excited to go again on this trip (almost as excited as I am!). The breakfast itself is really, really good, and who doesn't want at least ONE meal with a few of the big guys (Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy if I recall correctly) coming around? I imagine no matter how old and cool my daughter gets, I'll always want to do at least one character meal, and this is a really good one! ;)

Edit: Almost forgot the best part -- you can schedule it an hour before the park opens, eat your yummy breakfast, be done right around when the park opens, and be right next to the safari! Woo!

We loved the Tusker House breakfast! I love the jungle juice. Yummy. Food was great. We saw Donald out front and Mickey, Goofy, and Daisy inside when we went last week. I would totally do it again!

My kids have never been in to characters, so we've never done a character meal. I love the character, and our next trip will definitely have a character meal. They will be about the age of your kids on our next trip, and I don't expect them to be excited about it, but I do think they will enjoy them.

Have you asked your kids if they would like to do one? If they say, no, then I say save your money and eat somewhere they will enjoy.

We are not into character meals but we enjoy the food at Tusker. Yes, it's a lot of money but we think one meal is worth it; at least you will have an option to taste a few interesting non-traditional items.

I think that even if they aren't excited about seeing the characters, they will be excited when you get into the park early and you can get right on their top choice for a ride, then Fastpass it so they get a chance to ride it twice with no real waiting!

My dd11 has said flat out "I don't like princesses...I don't care about the princesses!" We have both CRT and Akershus booked. I told her "it's fine that you aren't into them, but your sister is into them and your parents have spent a LOT of money to enjoy this vacation. So, you're going to smile pretty for the camera and I promise not to post them on Facebook" :rotfl2: She smiled and said "sounds fair!" It also helped a LOT when I explained that we'd be getting into the parks early and be able to get Fastpasses nice and early. That rated a HUGE smile! :cool1:

(Just so people don't think the whole vacation is about her sister, it's not..we have lots of stuff booked that dd11 is very excited about that her sister isn't all the interested in and vice versa)

This is our must do meal every trip! The breakfast itself imo is one of the best buffets on property with lots of nice options. We have also found the service to be very good. We love getting an 8am reservation before the park opens. It is so nice walking through the empty park and we have alwasy been done eating right as the park opens! You really can't go wrong!

It was good food, but I wouldn't pay for it if neither of my kids wanted to go unless I wanted to go. ;)
DH and I went by ourselves (3 years before DS was born) and we ate at Crystal Palace b/c *I* wanted to meet Eeyore and Pooh.

ETA: It also depends on your budget. There are some people for which $100 breakfast is no big deal.
