Hiya,

First time visitor to this board. My parents are doing a Route 66 trip in May 2011 and are then planning on having a week in the Disneyland are afterwards. The plan is that my wife, 2 boys and I fly from the UK and spend a week with them.

None of us have ever been to Disneyland before and I'm totally out of my depth planning anything.

Are there any vacation homes in the area which can sleep 7 people? Which is the beat airport to fly into? Is a rental car a necessity? Are there any cheap flights from the UK? Any help would be awesome :)

Congratulations and welcome!

Don't know about vacation homes. Some of the nearby hotels have suites that are somewhat reasonable in price. If you can, you can rent DVC points and stay at the Grand Californian. They have suites that can sleep 7. However, they are not cheap.

The most convenient airport is John Wayne/Orange County. It's more expensive than LAX.

Don't know of inexpensive flights from UK.

Have fun!

Hi - fancy meeting you over here away from the DLP board.

We recently did a week trip to DL. We flew from Heathrow to LAX, then got the Disney Express bus from the airport. It was all very stress free.

We stayed at Hojos which took about 10-15 mins to walk everyday and was very nice.

We didnt have a car but as I say we walked to the parks and did 2 trips off site with gray line to knotts Berry Farm and Sea world

Los Angeles is the easiest airport to/from the UK - purely because it's the only one close that you can fly direct to. It's neither the nicest nor the closest, but you'll still be in Disney faster than if you change planes elsewhere and fly to Orange County or similar.

There's no need for rental cars if you're staying in a hotel as there's loads of them around Disneyland within easy walking distance and transfers to and from the airport are easy.

Planning is pretty easy - it's quite similar to planning Disneyland Paris (i.e. pretty laid back).

By convinience you should try to fly to SNA, LGB, LAX and finally ONT. However as mentioned if you are flying international you will be going to LAX. But if you end up with a layover in the US I'd try the others in that order to find a good price.

As far as a rental, if you plan to see other sites in LA then yes. If you are just going to DLR then there is no need. There are a dozen motels within a Km and many offer suites. Also consider getting two rooms as well.

If you're looking for a house to rent, I'd check out http://www.vrbo.com Look for Anaheim California.

We just did this and it was fantastic. A week is a long time to handle the constraints of a hotel room, even if you are in the parks most of the time. The condo we rented had toys, games, DVDs, a playground and a pool. There was an enclosed patio and a barbecue. Having a full kitchen was so nice for breakfast, snacks and even a crockpot dinner. We had a 10 minute walk to the parking garage trams; 20 minutes if we walked straight to the entrance.

http://homeaway.com is another site to check out.
