We are planning our first disney camping trip for next September. I have a couple of questions I hope someone can answer...

If you stay in a preferred site... Do you need to use the inter camp ground busses to get to the park busses or are you close enough to walk?

We have a handicap elderly woman coming with us... And do not want to have to double bus hop, especially because of getting the wheel chair hooked up for each bus...

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Fort!

All of the sites, including cabins are separated from the main bus stop by some distance. It will be necessary to use the internal bus system to get from your nearest bus stop location, to the main bus terminal located at the main entrance. Magic Kingdom is accessed by boat across the lake, and might require internal bus transportation to get to the dock.

There is the possibility of using a golf cart, but this will depend on the ability of the wheelchair to be folded up for transport. You can then take the golf cart right down to the dock and park, or drive the cart to a cart parking area just behind the main bus terminal. If the wheelchair can be folded up and used on a cart, then I would seriously consider this your best route to avoid the repeated on and off of the busses.

. . . you can walk it
. . . but, it's a fer peece to hyke
. . . and, a good stretch of the legs
. . . The Fort is HUGE
. . . example: from check-in to Settlement is one-mile as-the-crow-flies

. . . can't help it
. . . it is far to push a wheelchair
. . . any other method requires a double-hop
. . . whether internal bus to boats or internal to park bus

We usually request a preferred loop, 100 specifically, because it is closest to the Settlement, the boat dock and we can walk to the external bus stop that goes to Wilderness Lodge and beyond.

Now, while we do walk to all these spots and only take the internal bus if we have to go to the Meadows (pool, movie night) or the Outpost (the rest of the external busses), pushing a wheel chair might get to be a long hike.

I would suggest requesting loop 100 (preferred). Call and explain your situation. There is a walk through to the trading post towards the back corner of the loop. Ask if you can get a site close to this walk and it will make getting to the boat dock pretty easy.

Thank you for the answers...
I should have clarified better...it will (hopefully) be a scooter as that is what she usually takes.

But... I'm assuming you need to pay for a cart?

So pretty much... Double busses are unavoidable. I guess I will just need to plan for extra bus time. Par for the course I guess for a cheaper way to stay.

This is why I wanted to only go with my fiancé =]
Only would have to worry about the two of us... Not 12 lol

Ahhh, I see now. Yep, cart out of the equation now. Don't worry, it really won't be much difference in time than anybody else would experience. Most of the busses I have ridden have had someone on a scooter, wheelchair, etc. and it didn't ruin it for us. If anything, it gave us a little more time in the AC on the hot summer days we visited.

Being in a preferred will eliminate a bus ride on MK days. It's close enough to walk/scooter to the boat dock. Also you will be close to Trail's End and the store.
