We'll be at Magic Kingdom Sunday, Feb 2. We are staying at All Star Movies. What time do we have to leave (via bus) if we want to be there for rope drop? I believe the park opens at 9am that day. Thank you!

We do have a car rental. Would it be easier/faster to drive? Can someone walk me thru the process? We can't drive directly to the park right?

Be at the resort bus stop at 8:10AM, give or take.

Driving to MK is the least convenient of the theme parks.
You park in the MK lot (also called TTC) and then get to the boarding area
(walk or take a tram from your car.)
Then board a monorail or ferry boat which takes you to the MK gates.

If you choose to drive to MK, I'd depart the All Star resort by 8:00AM, give or take.

If I want to be at MK for rope drop I almost always take the car. Its true that you can't drive directly to the park, you have to park, take the tram to the entrance (ticket area), then take the ferry or monorail (I've heard rumors it will not be in use during your stay) to the actual park entrance) However then you can leave earlier than taking a bus. I am just a very paranoid person and I am always afraid that I will miss it and therefore I leave earlier than the bus would come. But you certainly can take Disney buses to get there and they will bring you right to the park, no need for ferry rides or monorail (at lease I believe it takes you right to the park, as I've said I never take it to MK). The process would go like this: assuming you are staying at a disney resort, you will get on the bus going to MK at your resort, it will take you there and you will get off at the park. I would recommend checking exactly when the first bus will be coming around and take that one. You will surely get there for rope drop if you take the first bus. If you prefer to drive yourself though you can always do that too. (I love taking the Ferry Across 7 seas lagoon) :)

1- The buses start running at about 6:30AM. That's pretty darned early.
2- The buses keep arriving every 10-15 minutes, or so, in the mornings.

The first bus leaves around 6:30 am, which would get you there way to early. Buses come about every 30 minutes from 6:30 until about an hour before the park opens. After that, it's about every 15 minutes.

Getting to the bus stop about an hour before the park opens will give you plenty of time.
