Hi! My family will be staying at POR in August. Any recommendations of what building to stay in at AB? I need a non-smoking facility and would like to be close but not too close to the hub. Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure what uilding to recommend - but I just wanted to say we really enjoyed the time we stayed at POR!

We just returned from POR. We stayed in building 16 and were very happy. We were right by a quiet pool and laundry facility, and had a short walk to the food court. It was a little longer walk to the bus stop. In my opinion, buildings 14, 15 or 16 would be the best to be centrally located.

In 2002 we stayed in building 26, this was a good little walk to the food court. Buildings 14, 15, and 16 are closer to the food court.

Hi,

Mom & I love POR!!! I'm not sure what building to recommend but I think that the magnolia part of the resort is farther away from things than the bayou side. Both are great though.

Hi Minniemagie

We will be at POR from 8-12 to 8-22. ( when will you be there.?)
My signature line has been deleted by the moderators because they think its too long. ( like its my fault I have been to WDW 10 times. ) ;)

Anyways, we have stayed at POR every August since 2000. We have tried both the AB and Mansions. We prefer the AB section.

Last August we were in AB #27. A corner room, 2nd floor. Yes it was a bit of a walk to the main building....( 3 minutes longer ) but it was wonderful. #14 is the best. We have stayed there too and if it wasn't for all the "people traffic" I would ONLY stay in #14.

But #27 to us...is 2nd best. Make sure to make plans to go see Bob in the lounge. You will not be disappointed. If you're there the same time as us...I am sure you may see me looking like a "fool" in the River Roost during Bob's shows.

Hi Kingkoofy,
My family will be there Aug. 4 through the 11. What is building 18 like? My kids are 17 and 14. We'd prefer less crowds to a tad bit longer walk. Where are the bus stops in comparison to the main hub? How has the weather been traditionally during your August stays? Thanks so much for your response!

minniemagie,
We stay in building 18 every time we go. We love the location. It is a smoking optional building. We are non-smokers. We could not tell any of the times we stayed there, that is was smoking, they clean it very well. It is close to the food court, main pool is a short walk and it has a quiet pool right beside it and also the laundry is close. Have a wonderful trip.

Thanks Disneyluv! I originally requested building 18 but was concerned when I heard it was a smoking building. Thanks for the info.

We go in August every year. DW is a daycare director and the only time her and her staff can take off is june - august. She lets her staff take vacations first then she takes last 2 weeks in August. ( This way our vacation is at the end of summer and we have something to look forward to. )

August, the heat and humid are VERY prominent. As far as rain, last August 03, was the WORST. We were there from the 14 - 24 and the week of the 18th it rained and rained and rained....you get the point. The rain started at about 4 PM and went all into the night. Being from Chicago, if it rained that much here, our house would be floating down the street.

Bring your ponchos and umbrellas just in case.

But the heat and humidity are bad. If you have no health problems, it should not be a factor.

Our mentality is .....we're is DISNEY...who cares. :smooth:

Hi Kinggoofy,

I'm with you...when I'm at Disney....I'm at the happiest place on earth! I could do without the rain though. We have a family reunion 5 years ago in Disney in Sept. There were 28 of us from 1 year through 42 and it rained everyday but the day we left. It was a bummer. Thanks for your info. No health concerns, we've been blessed so far! Thanks again so much!

We will be at POR May 8-14th. Can't wait!!! I am on this website every night just to get a peak at new info. Any other great tips you can offer?

We were there last March in Bldg. 14 - the closest to the food court and lobby and steps away from the bus. We loved it! The rooms are just average hotel rooms but the grounds are gorgeous! There were a lot of people there but it never seemed busy or noisy.

Don't miss Bob Jackson in the Rooster Lounge - I believe he's there from Weds - Sat. nites - he was great! Kids and adults will both enjoy him. The boat to Downtown Disney is relaxing at night. Nice general store, arcade and restaurant. Get the refillable mugs - worth the $ and it will give you an excuse to take a walk through the grounds for a refill.

We're returning this year as DVC members but would stay at Port Orleans again in a heartbeat. Have a great time!
