can anyone give advice for a family of 4(son15,daughter11) doing disney for the 1st time, any hints on time and money saving and how to keep my sanity during the months of planning ahead!! we go on 16/12/04,staying at all stars(movies) for 14 nights.

Welcome to the DIS boards! Best advice is to read these boards regulalrly for some great advice. This recent discussion lists a number of great tips. My first would be to buy the book "Brit's Guide to Orlando" and start your planning with that. Details are in that thread.

Regards

Rob

I've found it works best if you split your questions up into specifics. You get better responses this way! Ask away:D

as we are staying on site we are not taking car hire, how easy is it to get to other attractions,IOA/SW,dinner shows, shopping malls etc.

Meals on-site will always be more expensive than off-site.

But there are ways to save a few bucks :)

1. Have just a snack for breakfast and then an early lunch. :)

2. Lunch prices are cheaper than the dinner prices, but the actual menus are usually the same. :)

3. Try splitting a main course between two - they are more than willing to do this in WDW restaurants (just make sure you tip as if you had twi full meals) :)

Check out this site for menus and prices for all the on-site restaurants:

We stayed at the All Star Sports and found the refillable mugs good value. For one payment you could have fizzy drinks or tea/coffee for the length of your stay (didn't include real juice or milk though). The food courts at the hotel weren't as expensive as some other places in WDW as they were counter service, this also meant there was no tip to raise the price a little.

If you enjoy doughnuts and coffee for breakfast you can buy boxes of doughnuts at the hotel gift shop which work out cheaper than the food court.

Welcome to the boards

sorry but never stayed on site so can't help with those questions.

tip buy the Brits Guide to orlando - went on WHSmith web site yesterday & they are offering it at a discount with free delivery to your local store.

have you worked out how much car hire would be, there's been several threads on these boards on booking it yourself & saving money. It might not be too expensive compared to several cabs & trip to & from airport.

Welcome to the Dis

We stay on-site at WDW. We tend to go to a supermarket to stock up on goodies that we can have for breakfast and snack's. We also do All-you-can-eat character buffetts :D

We also get a Mears Transfer $12 rtn to Seaworld/IOA & US.

Welcome,

Not advise, just a warning...

BE PREPARED TO BE TOTALLY AMAZED!!

This will probably be the first trip of many.
