I had knee surgery (40% latereal menisicus removed :scared1::sick:) on 3/1/11. I was supposed to be 100 percent by now but unfortunatly that is far from the case. I can only stand for about 10 mins before I get PAIN. So I have rented a scooter from Apple scooter for my trip in 2 days!! I'm planning to only use fastpass and rider switch passes for the rides so that I can hopefully make it on the rides??? I think some of the rides I will be able to bring the ECV to and others I guess I leave it were the strollers park?? Would a GAC card help me? I also like to ice my knee to help control the pain (cortisone shot I had monday is not helping much) so I was wondering were could I get some ice in the parks for this purpose? Should I bring a bag for ice? I dont think my ice pack I use now will stay very cold in the cooler.

You could go to the first aid stations in the park to get an ice pack or you could ask at any quick service restaurants for ice.

Thanks!! I guess the first aid stations are on the map?? I never needed one before since I can find my way around all the parks blindfolded:lmao:

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

The majority of attraction lines in WDW are "mainstreamed". This means that a wheelchair or ECV will use the regular entrance and line all the way to either a show seating or ride load area. If a line is not mainstreamed there will be signs and/or Cast Members to direct you where to go.

If a show, normally there will be spaces to park a chair or ECV and there will be seats next to the space for other members of the group.

If a ride, usually you will have to transfer to a ride vehicle, although some rides will allow a person in a wheelchair to remain in their chair. If you have to transfer to a ride, and unload is not at the same location as load, your chair or ECV will magically appear at the unload area.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Note that Post #2 discusses mobility and equipment. Post #3 had a wide variety of information and links; it might be a good idea to look at the various park "Guidemap For Persons With Disabilities" for more detailed information. This is available at each Park Guest Relations and sometimes even i the big map rack near the turnstiles.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Yes they will be on the park map plus you can also ask any cm to point you in the right direction.

Splash they bring you out of the line before the steps and then you go and get on the ride thru the exit. for BTMRR, there's a handicapped entrance around the backside, just stay along the left by the fence, and you'll see the ramp for that line. A bunch of the rides in the MK aren't mainstreamed, so there's a separate entrance for wheelchairs/scooters. Just ask a CM where to go, and they'll direct you.

Good luck with the ECV I rented from Apple and loved them. I would bring ziploc bags and get ice at any counter serve. That way you don't have to go all the way to the first aid each time you wnt ice. HAVE FUN!!!!!

Just confirming what everyone else said - I use a wheelchair full time and I can get to every ride with the wheelchair except the TTA. Everything else is either mainstreamed or they have a separate but accessible entrance. Just ask a CM and they will tell you where to go!

few rides you have to change to wheelchair which is at ride. there are special places to park ecv, not in stroller area. BTM will let you ride second time tu get you back to ecv. my grandson was trilled when we rode 2 times without having to get off. they worked extra hard for us, only 5 year uld and me.

You can also pick up a Guide for Guests with Disabilities. At most parks they are in the kiosk with the other maps at the entrance or you can get one from Guest Relations or from the Concierge/Information desk at your resort.
Those are specialized maps that list things like the “Mobility Entrance” for each attraction.
But, asking the CM at the entrance is also good - just in case things changed.

If you don’t want to use ziplock bags, you can find an old fashioned ice bag at most pharmacies. They have a metal bag and a screw on top. Fill it with ice or ice with water and you are set to go. They usually leak a little less than ziplock bags do.
