Hey everyone, we have decided to try to rent points for a trip next May. We are going thru DVC rentals and put in our request in June. Is there an "average" turn around time for a member to offer to rent to us? I just wanted a little guidance as far as what is too long to wait etc. I realize that no one can give me exact info , but all advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Since you're more than 7 months away, you're waiting form someone with the right home resort to offer their points for rent. Depending how in-demand that resort is, it could take a while. At 7 months, any points can be used, but room availability becomes an issue.

It seems strange that you haven't had a response already. Are you trying for something that's particularly rare, or already booked up?

And it really depends on what resort you're trying to get points for. Poly and VGF owners are harder to find, and typically rent via the companies that will pay them the most. DVC Rentals, if you are referring to the agency I think you are, have a low owner payout and tend to work with non-premium points. David's is a higher-paying agency, which means owners are more apt to work with them -- although yes, it will cost you more as well.

The cheapest rental agencies for renters tend to do best booking lower-demand resorts with non-premium points.

We are trying for Kidani villas. We need about 95 points for the time we need. I had thought I would have had a response already, but because I had never done this before, I wasn't sure.

To be honest, there are no "premiums" for renting AKV points at 11 months via David's. Per David's own site, they are experiencing a shortage of points at all resorts and have people waiting to book within the next 6 months -- so any points work.

They will be trying to cover requests earlier in the year before covering a June request.

Renting has gotten a lot of publicity and the number of requests is far outstripping available rental points is the impression I get.

It does seem to be a conundrum of AKV thru the brokers. No premium and point shortage overall will mean that AKV points are more likely to be offered for 7 months windows and even if not then they will be used to fill those with rental requests that have come in before yours. With other resorts there are premiums offered to owners if it books in the home priority window and they can also indicate that is where they want them directed.

Of course, AKV owners rent but it's just that you are going to be further down the queue even though you are looking out in what would be the home priority period. I would not be concerned but it means it's very likely you'll be waiting a little longer than you might have expected.
