My DD (12) and I are staying in a studio for the first time. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they bring when staying in a studio. I realize we will not have the cooking facilites and such. Any comments will be appreciated.

Which resort?
At OKW, the microwave, fridge and toaster and coffee maker in the studio were plenty for two of us on a short trip. The only thing I didn't care for was the paper/plastic products, but we called Housekeeping, and they brought us glasses, dishes and silverware.

Well, you will have a microwave oven, a coffee pot, a toaster (if you want one) and a dorm size refrigerator with a tiny freezer.

You get real glasses and mugs, but the utensils are plastic and the plates are paper. Also, no dishwasher (unless you bring her along).

DW and I always stay in studios when it's just the two of us. We stop at the grocery store on the way from the airport and pick up pop, snacks and breakfast stuff.

Have a fun trip !

there is not a washer/dryer in you room - but you have access to one (it is free) - so I always been detergent and fabric softner

studios are great!!! I generally stay in one - this tripI am not but that is because I needed to spend the points - otherwise - yes we would be in a studio.

the refrigerator is big enough to hold quiet alot (my opinion) - the freezer is only big enough to hold its ice trays and a couple of pints of ice cream (or something else that small)

I bring my grill to do hamburgers and steaks. there are also outside grills at all the DVC resorts. generally near the quiet pool

I appreciate the convenience of paperware and always bring my own. I pack small plates, bowls (Dixie or Chinet) and also plastic utensils. We hit the grocery for "easy" items like donuts, cereal, milk, microwave popcorn and soda. I also buy some fruit and crackers! I have a small, soft cooler so we take our own drinks to the pool.

I also pack lots of ziploc bags and my own Tide as I am too cheap to buy the little $1 boxes Disney sells. Folks who fly swear by the laundry tablets. I also pack my own hangers. I go to Walmart and get the dozen wire ones for under $1. These are lightweight and go to the laundry room easily, plus they are so thin you can hang a lot more in the closet. This helps to reduce clutter in the room as the studios are not huge.

We often stay in studios to save points and we always have fun. Enjoy!

At BCV studio, they had everything we needed - plastic silverware, plates, bowls, paper towels, dishsoap, sponge, etc. Tide and Bounce were only $1.00 at the laundry room (2 or 3 loads per box). I would just buy whatever else you find you need at the resort as it won't be much. I did not know what to expect and, therefore, packed a lot of stuff I didn't have to.

ALL the studios have the same things in them: counter top size frig, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, coffee mugs, glasses, paper plates & bowls and plastic ware. You will also get paper towels, dish detergent, dish towel and sponge.

I do not understand why someone would ask which resort you are staying at since all the studios are equipped with the same stuff!
Now some of the studio's kitchenettes are much brighter and roomier than others but as far as equipment--they all have the same.

You have enough in a studio to do breakfast, snacks, and easy meals. There is a Publix on SR 192 and a Winn Dixie beyond Goodings(go out of the WDW gate and you'll be looking at crossroads Mall where Goodings is located. Go left and about 10 minutes down the road is Winn Dixie...cheaper than Goodings!!!), so we always stop and pick up some easy breakfast food, snacks. We don't cook meals in the room, but with the microwave you could do mac and cheese or frozen dinners.

Some folks don't mind the paper plates etc, I have heard that others will bring plastic plates and real silverware with them. It's a matter of preference.

Thanks for the quick replys! I am so excited as this is a mother-daughter trip just before my dd turns 13. Pray for me. LOL

We are staying at BWV, which is our home resort, although we do have 100 pts at BCV.

Can't wait!!

You're going to have such a great time, DeDixie! We stayed in a BWV studio for Halloween and the Food and Wine Festival in 2001 and had a blast.

Have fun making memories with your daughter!

Pat

98 days and counting . . . again!

I always bring along an electric skillet for my family (we drive), and am able to cook a full breakfast (bacon, sausage, eggs, and toast), fit a half gallon each of milk and juice in the door of the smallish studio fridges (my kids get up too early to go to the parks, even early entry, so we always have time for a cooked breakfast). I always cook one evening meal in the studios too. Usually I bring along a hamburger helper type of thing, though a ham steak is very easy too, and you can get those potatoes in the refrigerator section of the grocery that you just heat up in the microwave, and a frozen veggie to nuke, or salad, and dessert, and voila, dinner is served in a studio! We use one chair from the porch, and then a highchair for the little guy. We almost always get a studio. So obviously, an electric skillet, a spatula and a cooking spoon. As a previous poster already mentioned, there is dish detergent, sponge and towel in the studio. If you're going for a while, people have suggested taking 2 laundry baskets for dark and light clothes to tote your laundry to the machines and back, if driving, and 2 plastic bags for the same purpose if flying. Enjoy!

I'm one who does not like the bowls they provide when we eat cereal, so we bring small plastic bowls. We found the fridge to be a great size. We had cokes, DPs, water, gatorade, milk & oj and still room to store our "to go" boxes. Have a great trip!
