first time solo, hoping I don't say oh no!

Like many have said before me, so sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

My DM71 has been on every trip to WDW with me since 1998. :goodvibes And since 2002 my DD (now11) has been there too. :lovestruc Her memories of being at WDW with the both of us will last a lifetime!

I don't even want to think about the time when she will no longer be with us on our trips. :scared1:

What's great about going with my DM is that she lets me do all the planning, which I love. She does insist we do more than just "Disney". We've explored much of Florida and I think going to the Florida beaches are my DD's best time.

Oh, and did I mention that we also all live together? ;) When my DD was little my DM and I decided that living together would be a good idea (after being on my own for a long time). I don't "live with my mom" and she doesn't "live with her daugther" we live together, as a family. We both own the house and share all the costs. It works for us.

I think going solo will be a wonderful trip for you. Definitely do the 7 days. I'm all over squeezing out extra days. :rolleyes1 Take up the PP on her offer to get together. Maybe you'll make a new "Disney" friend.

I've been to TL and BB many times. If I had to choose one, it would be TL. Love the wave pool, sharks, and Crush 'n Gusher. If you like the body slide type of rides then I would pick BB, otherwise, TL is the best!

Have a wonderful time.:wizard:

that was always my dream! three generations, me my ma & my own little babygirl *mind you, this is a far far away dream

but I know my mom will always be with me

I'm really excited, you Dis-ers have been amazing! Thank you all
That's exactly how I felt when I first went down there and when I was doing the CP ( although I was a lot more tired during my CP haha)

Sorry to hear about your mom. I think it's pretty cool that your staying at the same resort ya'll stayed at when you were little!

I appreciate it:goodvibes when did you do your CP?

okay, here are the figures: (I am STUCK on staying at WL, my mom and I stayed there when we were little, and were going to stay there again, and plus, I want to be on the beach, close to MK and EPCOT, and, it's my trip!)

for a four night, five day stay: 1,679 for 7/1-7/5

but for a six night, seven day: 2,370 for 6/29-7/5

I know I could fill all seven days, two at MK, two at EPCOT, one day at MGM, one day at WL, and one day at Typhoon lagoon

what are your thoughts?

Yes, I agree with some previous posters... I would go all out and book the six night, seven day..you know you could fill all seven days, and, its like you said, its your trip!:goodvibes If it were me and I were in your shoes, I would definitely go that route. You'll be a lot happier that you did because, if you only did the four night, five day, chances are you'd be heading back home wishing you wouldve booked another night bc there were a few things you missed out on that you didnt get to do. My opinion is, it seems like this is a much needed trip for you and you shouldnt let anything hold you back. Go with your expectations:hippie:.. Make a ton of memories and have a blast!! And its like i said, going solo is a lot of fun, you'll enjoy the heck out of it and meet some really awesome people.

Your Welcome! I did the 09 spring advantage and it was probably the best 7 months ever! I've only been back once since, but I'd love to do a solo trip. I worked at the Boardwalk Resort and actually met a few people that were staying there solo and I kinda had the same questions like " aren't you lonely?" haha but I came to find out that none of them were and they seemed to be having a blast! Disney is the type of place were you're never really lonely because everyone is so nice and most cast members will chat with you! Where did you work when you were there???

I worked at Mission: Space in Epcot. I absolutely loved it! Disney is absolutely my personality. When I worked the exit, I would give everyone "Space 5's" dorky, no. disney, yes!

I'm in the hospitality field now, so I wouldn't mind working at a Disney property. But I wouldn't mind working in the Theme parks, either :wizard:

Yea, I'm totally digging the 6 nights over the four. Really, when I think about being there "too long", I have essentially *nothing* holding me back here. My mom was my family. So, I will just escape work & responsibilities for a week

Sounds awesome:thumbsup2.. thats the perfect plan.

I've decided to stay at POP! it's approx 1 grand cheaper, I have stayed there before and I really enjoyed it:goodvibes

I am not a huge fan of Value resorts, but what's funny is when I went solo for a few days before my Eurotrip last year, I totally stayed at the Pop to save money, lol. I guess if you're not in the room that much, it doesn't even matter!

If it were a trip where I knew I was gonna relax at the resort a lot, and I didn't have any DVC points left, I would personally pick the POFQ. I love the grounds there.

But it sounds like you already made your choice, and it's a good choice. Saving 1000 bucks is always a good thing! :thumbsup2

I spent 5 days solo at the PC and 5 solo at PORFQ. I loved both resorts. I'm sure the pools will be busy but I had no problem finding a nice quiet section just for me. I often plan a few solo days when going with family or friends just to have some me time. You'll have a blast and your mom will be smiling down and enjoying your trip.
I'm sorry for your loss but happy for your memories! Enjoy your trip:angel:

wah. okay. now I have a few kinks in my plans

I told one of my girlfriends of my solo trip and she flipped. she refuses to let me go alone, so she wants to come with, which I totally don't mind. we went before and had a bah-last! but I knew financially it was out of the question until now. But, she only wants to go 7/1-7/4 whereas I want to go 6/29-7/5

I'm trying to figure out the dining plan. I love deluxe, she enjoys quick service. and I have a PIN for free dining, so I kind of figured it out:

if we upgrade to the regular/ basic plan we can use all of the quick service meals while she is there, and then I can use all of the table service when I'm alone

does anyone see any mistakes in that?

First off, I want to say sorry about the loss of your mother.

I've been to DW about 15 times now. Some of those trips have been solo and some have been with friends. When I travel with friends I sit down with them and go over the plans, whether it be dining or park activity. We decide mutually and if it works it works. If not then spend some time alone with your plans/thoughts. Your original intent was to go alone. Tell your friend the main reason for the trip and hope she understands.

A continuation of my previous post. Like I mentioned I travelled alone...even sometimes at Christmas. Spent Christmas Eve through to New Years Eve at the Caribbean Beach Resort. One day, at the food court there, I couldn't find a seat. Looking around suddenly 2 arms were waving at me to come over. The couple sitting there asked if I was alone and I said yes...they asked me to join them so I did. We chatted and they were from the Pensacola area...retired military. I had a lovely chat with them till it was time to hit the parks. We met again the next day, chatted about our activities. They gave me their email address to keep in touch and exchange pictures we had taken. We kept in touch, I even went back to visit them where they welcomed me with open arms. Having been in Law Enforcement at one point he took me on his Air Force Base there to have some pizza and show me around. I had a fantastic time with him.

Now, I'm going solo again on the Disney Dream for 4 days 4/24 - 4/28...3 days over the Easter weekend at the Animal Kingdom Resort. I really look forward to my first EVER cruise.

Sounds like a good plan to me! Looks like you'll get your solo time and some friend time so it's like the best of both worlds. I too am going solo soon, but only for 3 nights :sad1: A friend of mine is going to meet me for one day while I'm there though, so I'm looking forward to it all while it lasts!

Awww thank you!! I try my best!

stitches: I came down on my CP after I graduated college and just never left. I'm part time working at DHS at the moment! Will probably end up going to grad school down here and hopefully keep working as well.

You're welcome!! It's good to know great people like you are out there! :grouphug:

I  POP! I always heard things about the Value resorts and how they were less than great. I first stayed at ASMovies and it was OK. When I stayed at POP, I fell in love! I also love the fact that it is cheaper!

oh my gosh. God love her, but my friend who wants to join is creating so many headaches

I am like an insane planner. and, this is just too complicated for what I'm trying to accomplish--which is a relaxing vacation! :confused3

between counter services, table, which park, etc

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate her interest in coming with,
but, it's creating unnecessary frustration on my behalf.

what to do, what to do.
(and normally I am a master of planning, but not today :sad2:)

Decide whether you really want her to join you or not. If it's making too much frustration for you, then as a friend you should be able to tell her you'd like to go solo and she should accept that. This trip is after all, supposed to be about relaxing and remembering your mother. If your friend is going to impede that, then I would tell her you don't want her to come.

As for the dining plan stuff, I'm not sure how that could work. I assume you would be sharing the room? If so, each person has to have the same DP, and same ticket I think. If that's the case, then you would each have to have 6 nights worth of dining credits. Does your friend want to pay for 6 nights of deluxe dining even though she would only be there for 3? I think it would perfectly possible for that to happen, but are you both aware that your friend would be paying for those 6 nights (or the up charge from the free QS?).

On the Deluxe DP you get 3 credits per night, which can be used for TS or QS. So you wouldn't really be just using QS credits for the first half. You could certainly only do QS places for the first 3 nights, but it seems like a huge waste of Deluxe DP money to using half of your credits on QS.

Here's a thought -
Why not book two separate packages back to back? Book a 3 night package for the two of you with QS DP, and then a 3 night with DxDP for just you?

I thought about that, but I don't want to have to pay for another set of tickets (whereas, if I were to just extend/ add days each day would only be about $10)

I decided to do the reg dining plan. it'll only be $156 for me to get the table service I want after she leaves, and then while she is there we would use part QS part TS

Change of plans:scared1:

I will be celebrating my mother's birthday in a different (non-Disney) way

however, I still feel the need to go to Disney, of course

So now I am thinking last week of August (great time, been there in 09 with my my mom that week) or the first week of September, solo

Between my new job, the July heat and the flip flopping of the girl who wanted to go with me, my original plans just didn't work very well

any opinions?

The last week of August sounds great. I plan to be there during the last two weeks of August with my little girl. Our first week will be at POP, and then, my sister and her husband will join us, and we plan to move to Kidani. It is a great time for Disney!

Your plans to honor your mom touch my heart. I posted a reply to you somewhere on another thread. I lost my dad when I was nine years old, and our last family vacation together was our first ever trip to Disney World. So whenever I go to Disney, I feel like he is with me. I really do feel his presence, especially in the Magic Kingdom.

As I looked at your signature today, I saw that your mom died on February 20th. My dad died February 20, 1977. This trip will be really special for you. August is even better than July, because it is less crowded, and it is the time of year that you shared with your mom.
