We were planning on using the shuttle at WBC but now I understand they are adding a $12/day fee. So now I'm reconsidering getting a rental but I have no idea where to start. We will be arriving at MCO on a Friday and going home on the next Saturday. It's for 4 adults and 2 small children in October 2013. What kind of car do I need to rent? About how much can I expect to pay? Should I get one from the airport or somewhere else? I have never ever rented a car before so I'm totally lost. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I think you may be confused about a couple of things.

The WBC $12/day fee is for the shuttles from their property to the Disney Resorts. It is charged whether you use the shuttles or not

WBC does not offer an airport shuttle at all. You are on your own to arrange transport between the two.

If you choose to rent a car to drive from the airport to WBC and then use that car to drive to the parks, you will still have to pay the $12/day fee in addition to the $14/day Disney parking fee.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

I just got off the phone with Wyndham and you are correct. Not sure what I'm going to do now.

With a family of 6 you will need to rent a mini van or two small cars. If you do some research you will be able to find coupon codes that will bring the rental cost down some. It could end up being cheaper to rent two compact cars than a mini van. It will all just depend on your travel dates and if there are any coupons available that apply to your rental.

If you will be happy using the WBC park shuttle your lowest cost option to get from/to the aiport would be a limo company. Round trip they are in the $120-150 range including a 30 minute grocery stop.

6 people and luggage - you will need a minivan. You could also rent 2 cars instead, which may be cheaper than one minivan. We usually go to Disney every October. A full size car rental costs approximately $200 for 7-8 days. A minivan rental prices can be very varied - about $350-600 for same period of time. This assumes you do your homework and use codes and are willing to book/rebook when rental prices go down. Most of the lower prices occur much closer to your trip. I make a reservation and will rebook a new one and cancel other one as I get a better price. Lots of information here on discounted car rentals! Usually for a minivan, a great anytime code is Travelocity code with Budget x474200. Look to add a coupon to get another $20-40 off.

Parking a Disney is $14 per day (per vehicle) so a minivan would be better, in my opinion, as everyone can ride for one parking fee. You are going to have to pay to get to and from the airport anyway. For a little more, you will have the flexibility to go to and from the parks when you want. You can also go to the grocery store as needed or save money by eating off site.

Check the Wyndham Bonnet Creek shuttle schedule. I remember the times as being quite limited, especially mid-day. If your kids are small, you may want to go back to the hotel for lunch/snacks, nap and/or swim. We really like the flexibility and hate feeling locked into a schedule, especially with kids.

With Disney, once you pay the $14, you can park in any park and come and go that day as you please without paying it again. We stay offsite to save money and get more space. We always figure in the price of the parking and the cost of the rental car (we always rent a car even if we stay on Disney property, but usually a smaller one).
