Let me first start off by saying, that I have been going to Disney since 1988 when I turned 12. Over the first four years, we purchased four timeshare units to use during week 44. I have been her over 20 times. This is my home away from home. I am so happy and so comfortable here.

This year is my first year here in 4 years and my parents first time back since 2002.

We all went to Epcot yesterday, and as much as it pains me to say this, it was very magic-less. In my top 3 worst experiences ever.

90% of my group is above the age of 70 we did not know which park or which day we would be going to a part. Everyone, besides me, just wanted to do Epcot. So we decided on yesterday, 11/1. We purchase tickets at our usual spot, planed on having a great time.

First issue:
My mother has trouble walking, and needs to get as close to the gate as possible. I understand that in this time and age of terrorism, that it is impossible to do so. But I was able to drop her and the rest of my family off as close as we could and then I would park the car.
*In order the park the car in the handicapped spaces, I had to LEAVE the property, get back onto Rt 4, make a U-Turn, re-enter the park, had to plead my case to the parking attendant that we already paid for parking, and I am just dropping off and now parking, and then was able to park in the handicapped spot. What the hell Disney? Not convenient or disney-like.

Next:
Fastpass +
Non of us were aware of this, so when I asked, they said that I had to download an app (My Disney Experience), scan the tickets in, and then we can choose our fast passes.
I am fine with only being able to choose "3 at a time" since that is what it used to be when we would get the print out ticket with our time to come back to ride. We log in, do everything, go to schedule Soarin and the first pass avail was 530. It was 9AM.
I looked at what ever was avail around this time, or closer, and there was nothing. EVERYTHING was already booked.
I stopped to ask someone, surely my app was not working right, and they explained that guests can choose their time slot 30 days in advance. Someone else told me that if they stay on property that they can reserve their time 180 days in advance!

This is elitism. They are punishing those who do not stay on property. So, for those of us who don't because we already own (OWN) timeshare, we have to wait on the line (which yesterday was a 50 min wait, the longest I have ever seen during week 44).
This needs to change, it is an unfair system. Not everyone can pre-plan their vacation down to the minute half a year in advance.

Second:

Disney Springs
When did this become such a _______!?!?! You are now forced to park in one of two garages, with are both set towards to the back end by La Nouba. There are no drop of/pick up points down at the other end. Again, I have elderly people with me. They can not walk the 45 miles from La Nouba to the waterfront and restaurants. So I tell them that I will pull up the the AMC curb and drive them down there.

Each exit leads into another parking garage. Each exit out of the parking garage dumps you back on the main road. Everytime you think you are getting into a lane that could possibly take you to the curb, you wind up into the parking garage again. I eventually, 25 mins later, had to ask if I could pick them up at Valet. I was told yes. Two of our party was walking slower, so we were not all there yet. My mom uses a walker. She's 79.
I am the only car parked here. My hazards are on, and I am pulled all the way possibly up front as to not cause a problem.
But this Disney cop apparantly thought it was a problem and proceeded to tell me that I am in a valet spot only. I explained I am waiting for my mother. He said, again you are in a valet, I again said, yes I know, I have to pick her up at the curb because she is using a walker. He again said I had to move. I have no lost my cool. I told him that my mother is 79 years old, is using a walker, has a pacemaker cannot walk fast, or for long, nor go up stairs, and has to be picked up curbside, where would he like her to go?
I was just about to tell this rent a cop to write me a ticket because I was not making my mother walk a mile to the parking garage, when she finally walked around the corner and I saw her.

**SERIOUSLY**?! This is the "magic" of Disney cast members anymore?

We have been here 2 days. And this is turning into the worst trip I have ever had here.

There was no magic in Epcot yesterday. It felt like a higher class Six Flags.

I am here, now at 10AM, waiting for my parents to bring the car around (they got suckered into an owners breakfast), so I can finally go to another park.

I have nothing to do but stew.

Rant over. And possibly Disney may be off for me as well. Lets see how today and tomorrow treat me a the worlds "happiest" place.

I'm sorry it's been such an ordeal but it sounds like you did very little planning.
1.- You don't need to leave property to get back into the Epcot parking lot
2.- Disney Springs has been changing over the last 2 years, new roads have been constructed and 2 new parking garages. Plus additional parking at both ends
3.- FP+ has been in service for more than 2 years, you can book in advance if you have tickets, if you buy tickets same day then you have no choice but to book fastpasses that day.
4.- I agree with @AngiTN it sounds like it would be more convenient to rent an ECV

Just to clarify.... onsite guests can make fast pass selections 60 days in advance, not 180. And it is a perk given to those spending their money to stay in Disney owned hotels rather than off property time shares and hotels.

It is not punishment for those staying off property, it is a perk given to those who pay the exorbitant resort prices.

Sounds like your mom needs an ECV to keep in the car so she can easily get from the handicapped parking spot to her destination. I agree, I don't think drop offs and then parking is convenient most times. You can rent one and have it delivered to your resort for the week for about $150. Well worth the money!

I'm sorry you are were unaware of the FP+ program that has been around for years now and didn't book FP 30 days in advance. On the other hand, my mom is at WDW this week and didn't want to book any FP. She is having a fabulous time and hasn't complained to me about waiting in line.

I'm sorry to hear that you "had to plead your case" with the parking attendant. You should have been able to just show your parking receipt and gone right in. You pay for parking once a day and can leave and re-enter the parking lots all day on the same receipt.

Correction: FP+ are 30 days (all guests) and 60 days (onsite guests), not 180 days. ADRs can be made at 180 days for all guests.

FP+ was rolled out in 2013, so it's been out for at least 3 years.

First issue: why not just park in handicap off the bat? Then could grab a wheelchair or walk the short distance since you're near the front. Also you only pay for parking one time a day. You just show your receipt to the parking attendant and they let you in. This includes park hopping as well, still only pay once. Same goes for the other parks as well (universal, Busch Gardens, IoA)

FP: off site is 30 days, on site is 60 days. It's not 180 days in advance for anyone, that's only for dining reservations. Disney for years now has been more around catering to those that have planned vs just guests showing up that day to get tickets. You don't have to plan far in advance, but you should get your tickets as soon as you know you're going to Disney. Even if you link tickets a week out from your trip, you'll have a wide range of rides to choose from at all different times. Trying to get same day fast passes is always going to be low availability.

Disney Springs: it's so much nicer now and way easier to drive to. One parking garage is over by Cirque Du Soleil, the other is over by the marketplace. If you park in the one by the marketplace, it's a short walk to the restaurants on the opposite side from Cirque Du Soleil. There's also a bridge that you can walk across the water that puts you closer. There's drop off points on the first floor of the parking garage.

Seems like your trip isn't enjoyable because there was no planning involved and a lot of stuff you were unfamiliar with. Hopefully now that you have your tickets linked you went on and made your FP's for your remaining days.

I'm sorry you feel so frustrated and disappointed. I hope the next 2 days are better.

Did you try to modify your fast passes? Sometimes you can get a better time after obtaining the initial fast pass.

Have you considered an ECV or wheelchair for your mother?

And there is a boat that goes from one side, to the middle, to the other side, and back.

I was confused by their not using Handicapped parking off the bat myself. Maybe folks don't realize they offer wheel chairs to help get in from the parking lots and bus stops?

I am sorry you had a bad time, but it could have been fixed with just a LITTLE advanced planning.

1. As a Disney vet you KNOW you HAVE to do your research before traveling. You could have purchased your tickets in advance and booked fastpasses. It isn't Disney's fault you didn't do ANY research into things that had changes since your last visit. When you don't plan you run the risk of nasty surprises.

2. You KNEW your mother's mobility was gonig to be an issue before you even got there, you said so yourself. RENT A SCOOTER!!!

Honestly, much of this is poor planning, not Disney's fault.

I was going to bring up the lack of planning and that not being Disney's fault. Then decided that maybe Disney can bear some fault for creating the environment where trips are improved by planning. So I gave them a pass for that.

The mobility issue is 100% on the OP though. No excuse for not planning better for that. They may not have known about FP+ and all that but they darn well knew how much walking was required at Disney and that is on them for not making better arrangements.

I am disabled and a wheelchair user. We went in September and go every year. I thought the addition of the lime car park ( closer to market place ) was a great addition. Before you had to circle around like a shark for parking spots and in the 15 years we have been coming we never got the disabled ones. Now there is plenty. Good shopping too.

We park in the disabled at EPCOT.

This is entirely true. We are all somewhat elite, those of us who post here. Even if we struggle to save the money for our trips, we all have devices with regular internet access. As common as that it is becoming, it still places the average poster here at an advantage over many other less fortunate.

I'm sorry you aren't enjoying your time. Like others have pointed out, most of these issues would be prevented with a little pre-planning. Hopefully, with the suggestions you've been given you can salvage the rest of your trip.

Let me first start off by saying, that I have been going to Disney since 1988 when I turned 12. Over the first four years, we purchased four timeshare units to use during week 44. I have been her over 20 times. This is my home away from home. I am so happy and so comfortable here.

Things change so much from year to year. We hadn't stayed on property since 2008, so when I was planning for our most recent trip in August, yeah, I was pretty amazed at how much had changed. I'm not crazy about the FastPass+ system either, or the new Disney Springs. So while I agree somewhat with the comments about poor planning, being that you do consider yourself comfortable there and have been visiting since 1988, you probably didn't realize that so much had changed and figured you'd be okay knowing what you know. Some people just don't spend as much time as the rest of us keeping up with Disney on message boards and social media. With that being said, you're at a place you love with family. So far things are not going as expected, but it's not too late to turn it around and take the disappointments with a grain of salt. Have fun, enjoy the time with family and friends, and next time just bear in mind what you've learned and apply it to planning for your next trip. Hang in there!!! I hope you come back in and post that things got better!!
