Our son Ashley (10) has been having golf lessons for a couple of months and took part in a junior competition a couple of weeks ago, just to say he'd been on the course and the fee was only £2. DH and I decided we'd like some clubs to be able to join in with Ashley, and we've been for our first time on the course today. Half way round the 9 hole course a marshall approached us and abruptly told us 3 people can't play with only 2 bags of clubs. Felt about half an inch tall, like a naughty schoolgirl, I appreciate there are rules and they are to be obeyed (I'm a big rule obeyer) but in our ignorance we didn't know and now I don't feel like going back. It was something we were looking forward to doing together when the children are at school so I will have to borrow Ashley clubs because I'm not prepared to buy more clubs unless I know I'm going to keep at it. I was absolutely useless, the men behind us laughed at my first attempt, felt like going and clouting them one!

Oh Wendy, Poor you :grouphug: Some people are such 'Jobsworths'

Keep at it if you enjoy it. DH got me golf lessons with a pro a few years ago. I didn't like it, doesn't help that i have zero co-ordination :teeth:

Golf is one of those games which has more rules than you can shake a stick at. How well they are enforced depends on the course in question.

My advice would be to get a cheap bag and split the clubs between them, problem solved. Then no-one would be any the wiser. Then just take the club you need from whichever bag. You could probably play a round with 2 or 3 clubs anyway.

I play pretty badly, and do get first tee jitters, but everyone does. It is not very nice to laugh at someones misfortune though. It might be worth going to a driving range and getting some practice there before going back on the course.

9 or 18 holes of golf can feel like long way if you start getting disheartened, but just keep at it and you will get better (in my case extremely slowly!)

Sorry to hear this, Wendy, some people can be so mean :grouphug:

Hope you can stick it out just to show them :p
