First time in a long time, National cheaper than Alamo

Wow, I had just about given up on National, my favorite car rental agency, and I checked today and I was able to book a Compact thru National for $13.00 cheaper than Alamo for our upcoming September trip (5-day rental).

Even better, I was able to book a National midsize for only $3.00 more than the Alamo compact.

I used the AAA contract code and National's $30.00 off weekly rental coupon, NF1982JDD, which interestingly enough, gave me $40.00 off instead.

There may be some better rates, but I just started looking today and was really surprised to find this.

Yes, I am finally able to rent with National again too.


As I was reading your post I was going to offer a $35 off coupon, but then you said you actually got $40. Tried it on my ressie and it only took off $30.

Good for you! I love National as well but the last few years we have used Alamo as it has been cheaper. We are leaving the day after Thanksgiving and the rates are sky high! The cheapest thing I could get was a 15 Passenger van for 125.75. Sadly, there are only 3 of us going and we do not need that big a vehicle so I shall wait and see what happens! Glad you made out well!

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think we made out well. I remember the days of getting a rental for $18-$20 a day, and now it is more like $30. We have gotten very spoiled with having a rental car and don't like not having one anymore. Our trip in September we will be staying at Bay Lake Towers, and all of our dining is either within walking distance or a monorail ride away, so I am seriously considering not getting a rental and using a towncar service. I still cannot bring myself to use Magical Express that requires me to leave so much earlier than I feel is necessary. The towncar service would still give us a stop at the grocery store, and would be less than the rental car. Decisions, decisions.
