My Wife & I will be checking into Fort Wilderness this Wednesday for our First time in a Camper. We just bought a Used RoadTrek and are looking forward to trying it out. We've been to WDW many, many times but have never Camped. Any suggestions????

Thanks
D

how about enjoy your magical vacation...and a tip...the bus system is great but slow so if you are going to use it make sure you aren't in a hurry to get to your destination...explore the resort and relax! It can't get much better than FW when you are camping! It's kinda like getting 2 vacations in one for me!!!! Best of luck! :hippie:

Don't stress over how lomg it takes you to park. Sometimes parking is a spectator sport:goodvibes , but you will usually find a helping hand from your neighbors. If you really do need help you can also call the desk for help.

Our best investment was a large 12' rug we bought at Lowes by the foot (it was on the big roll by the carpet). If you have the time to get one I think you'll be glad you did.

If you are renting a golf cart keep a hand towel / dish towel in the glove box. It kept our butts dry from the afternoon showers and morning dew that wet the seats.

Pop your own microwave popcorn & re-use a popcorn bucket from the parks & bring to the nightly movie (you'll save your self $$ and the hassle of standing in line).

Just incase you forget anything, mapquest Walmart (or your favorite grocery) directions from FW before you leave home so you won't get lost if you need to make a grocery run.

Have a Funtastic Time...bring your sunscreen / water and patience
:thumbsup2

is a GREAT idea. We camped in our tent at FW a few weeks ago for the first time. Since my brother was there we set up our tent on the back of his RV camp site. He had the extra rung and it really cut down on what we tracked in.
Also, a plastic table cloth & the clips to keep it from flying away. If you have rope or twinkle lights from Christmas thise can be used to decorate your site.

Have fun

Lisa

Welcome and have a great trip! I look forward to reading about your experience when you get back.:thumbsup2

I would take a look at the Packing list for campers, then make your own list of necessities and make sure you have everything you need. If you can get it at the Fort, it is expensive. If you can't, you have to waste the time to go get it.

Us campers are at an advantage because we don't have to leave anything home because we can't put it in our luggage! ;)

That's my tip! :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful time in your new camper! :rotfl:

:tink:

we're at an advantage until we take a trip without it. I was in Arizona and totally forgot to pack t shirts.

Hi everyone, hope I'm not hijacking this thread with a question about one of the tips.

The rug idea sounds intriguing, but I'm not sure I understand. It seems to me that with possibly daily rain showers the rug would get and stay wet? Also, is the purpose to cover most of your site so you're not stepping on the sand, or is the purpose just to create a place to drag the sand off your shoes before getting into the tent? I know there's some detail here that I'm not understanding...thanks for any light you can shed on the situation!

Our outdoor rug is made of a woven synthetic that dries very quickly. Also can be washed with soap and water, won't fade, etc. It keeps you from having to walk around in sand and also cuts way down on the amount of dirt tracked inside. If it gets wet right before we're packing up to leave, we just throw it over the picnic table a couple of hours, then roll it up.

The one we bought was woven really tight so it is easy to sweep and it has a rubber backing instead of the normal woven stuff thats on the bottom side of carpet. Very easy to clean (it can be hosed off or swept) and pretty light weight as well. I think we ended up buying 20' of it so its 12x20 and we spent $60.

I thought of a couple of other "hints"
We used the tote we keep our shoes in outside the camper, kept things neat and also kept trash out of the camper. Don't forget your broom and or swifter

Bring lots of ziplocs in different sizes (especially the new large ones) they are so useful....marinate meat / pancake mix / scramble eggs / mix & keep salad.

Don't forget your clothes line to hang beach towels

We love our "dummies" book for camping...lots of great info especially for 1st timers.

Thanks so much for everyone's help!
we're looking forward to being there and we'll be sure to follow up and let you know how it goes.

Thanks much

bring lots of beer, it's expensive at the trading post.

Bring a broom!!!

HEHE:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No kidding! The first upgrade I requested for our camper was a central vacuum. I use that thing every stinking day. With 5 kids going in and out of the camper, I really don't know how there is any sand left at the beach. We also use the very large zip lock bags for trips to the bath house. We bought a neat sheet (found this a Walmart) to cover our golf cart every night. It is waterproof and keeps the dew off. My tip: bring a fan to sit outside of the camper. That way you can keep air flowing while enjoying the outside. Another tip: if you are going to use the laundry room at the comfort station, bring rolls of quarters. I usually wash in the camper, but go to the cs for beach towels and sheets.

Have a great trip!
