First time in 2-bedroom Villa, how do I clean it?

Clean the unit when we arrive? I have never felt the need, always clean when we get there. Now when we leave we do clean as much as we can because we are kind of messy and just want to help the Mousekeepers a little...smjj

To each his own, I have seen a Mousekeeper use a rag to wipe water off the floor and use the same rag to wipe out the inside of the refrigerator. Just because it looks clean doesn't mean that it is.

And yes I realize that everything everywhere is laced with bacteria and viruses but there is something about wiping down the room that we spend most of our time in.

I was thinking of buying a backlight and really giving the place the once over but DW said that was going too far. :goodvibes

:crazy2: This comes under the heading of things I really don't want to know but just in case DH brings his own pillow and never, ever used the bedspreads before they switched to the 3 sheet arrangement.

I always bring Clorox wipes to wipe down all counter surfaces, door knobs, remotes, phones, etc.
We have been owners at OKW since 1993 and BWV since 2000, go 2-3 times a year in various resorts and villas. Only once have we encountered dirty kitchen ware. Trust me I check everything. Called housekeeping to let them know about the dirty utensils. Within minutes two people from management arrived asking to see the dirty utensils. I was impressed with the quick response.

Not to digress too much but I was a housekeeper in a hotel once upon a time. Almost everything gets cleaned with the same rag. Don't ever use the ice bucket without the plastic bag insert. Just sayin'. I know this and still don't clean the room at WDW or anywhere else before settling in.

We are new owners and are taking our first trip in December. What is the tip to clean the hot tub?

Some people run a package of dishwasher detergent (you'll find it under the sink in the kitchen) through. Just put in in a full tub and turn on the jets, let run for a bit (10-20 minutes or so) then drain. Bleach would be a better idea from a sanitizing point of view, but I can't imagine traveling with bleach - but we fly.

I just got rid of my home jaccuzzi in favor of a soaking tub. The jets do get gross - and at home I was the only one using it.

I don't clean either. I'm lucky if I clean my house, much less a timeshare room that just saw maid service.

I never clean it either. I bring a small Lysol can, but that is for bathroom smells, lol. The most I do is pull down the comforters to the bottom of the bed, or even remove them. (so glad most hotels at Disney and elsewhere are removing those!)

I never get sick.

Thanks! Good to know!

Happened to be in the reading room this afternoon and read that according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Norovirus that we have all heard about in the news is the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis in the United States. Each year, it causes 19-21 million illnesses and contributes to 56,000-71,000 hospitalizations and 570-800 deaths, and that is just one virus.

Since one of the ways of getting ill from the virus is touching contaminated surfaces, I think that we will still wipe down the room and do the dishes before we use them.

Can you imagine what that would look like! OMG I'd probably never stay in a hotel again. Lol
It's right up there with never work in the kitchen of your favorite restaurant. Hahaha! Some things are just better not knowing.
I am going to run dishes and give the counters a wipe down with Clorox wipes. That's a great suggestion. In a regular hotel room you're usually not eating much in the room. Having a full kitchen or kitchenette will change that.

I take a wonderful product with me pretty much everywhere, called Zylast XP. It is similar to a hand sanitizer, but it can last up to 6 hours and it kills the Noro virus. No sticky residue like alcohol-based hand sanitizer leaves on your hands, either. Great product to have when traveling especially. I use it daily.

As far as cleaning when we're at WDW, I do keep a big ol' container of Clorox wipes in my Orlando storage locker and wipe remotes, counters, phones, doorknobs, etc when we first check-in our room. I also do the dishwasher stuff in the jetted tub. Dishes get loaded in the dishwasher and run before we use them as well. Maybe it's because I am a nurse, but I do not take chances when travelling. Nothing worse than going on vacation and winding up sick.

That's what I do also if I don't have bleach. Just make sure you really rinse the tub (jets) thoroughly after letting it run with the detergent.

This is a great idea...will use this at home too. One question though, hot or cold water or does it matter.? I would think HOT.

I just open both hot and cold to quickly fill the tub. I do let it run for about 10 minutes to really rinse the jets. Some people will rinse two times. But I only do it once and haven't had any problems.
