So I've been to WDW six times...and am contemplating on going solo. Either May of 2022 or early 2023. I'm a little nervous about going alone...because so much has changed since 1995. But I really want to go because it has been so long. Just need a little advice maybe on what to do at each park, and maybe on where to stay. I'm looking at Pop Century or Maybe Port Orleans.

I’d say do it! Solo trips to WDW are great and you can do more on your own than with a group. Plus you have plenty of time to prepare. Port Orleans is my absolute favorite resort and definitely worth it! Better food and scenery, and usually has decent rates throughout the year. The only thing you’d have to plan for is transportation. Buses are available and there’s a boat that goes back and forth to Disney Springs (not currently running but should be available by the time you go). Pop Century is ideal for easy transport via Skyliner to Hollywood Studios and Epcot, but I still prefer Port Orleans for the serene quiet and theme.

Thank you. I was planning on going to WDW about 10 years ago, and was planning on staying at Port Orleans.... I loved the scenery. And if I do go, I'll probably stay there. :) I appreciate all of your help :)

The best thing about a solo trip is that you can do exactly what you want to. If you want to go to MK every day, you can. You can go to the restaurant your travel companions hate. You can run from ride to ride all day or just sit and people watch. It’s all up to you. I would look up the most recent guide maps online, to get an idea of the changes since your last visit, so you can decide what are “must do” experiences for you.

I have done solo trips at both Pop and Port Orleans, and like them both. These days, I usually stay at Pop because I love the Skyliner. However, if you are considering traveling in the summer, be aware the Skyliner does not run when it storms (a daily occurrence in summer). They do run buses when it’s down, but it’s still a disappointment. As a solo, I also appreciate the room layout of the new Pop rooms, since I don’t have to lower the Murphy bed. It makes the room feel much more spacious. The resort has a kind of whimsical feel, from the bold colors and oversized decorations.

Port Orleans definitely has a more laid back feel to it, and if you plan to spend more time relaxing at your resort, it’s great. I prefer the French Quarter side, but have stayed at both. The rooms are a little larger, but as a solo you lose some of that space due to having two regular queen beds instead of being able to fold one up out of the way. The grounds are nice and PO feels a little more upscale than Pop. I don’t think you can really make a bad choice between those resorts.

WDW is one of the best places for a solo trip, in my opinion. CM’s are always willing to chat, if you start feeling too alone, and you can often strike up a conversation with other guests as well. I have never felt out of place, or like people even notice I am a solo. I eat in table service restaurants solo, ride attractions solo, book tours or special events solo, and never feel awkward. Actually, I have gotten to the point where I prefer my solo trips to the trips with family and friends.

Thank you for the input. I don't mind going alone at all. And you're right. I can go where I want, when I want. I don't think I'll be staying in my room too much. Unless I want to take a day off from going to the parks...so I can recover :) Maybe go to Downtown Disney or something. I am leaning more towards Port Orleans :)

I’d suggest picking your time frame first as that may influence where you want to stay, how long you want to stay, and how much money you want to spend.

I like both resorts you mentioned, but I also love the tower rooms at CSR, renting DVC studios, and staying cheap at All Star Sports.

Sometimes I opt for the cheaper hotel, but I throw in a tour or dessert party or a bunch of signature restaurants. Other times I splurge on the hotel and eat on the cheap.

One strategy is to book the hotel for the earliest dates you might want, then pay attention to any announced discounts. And if you need to fly or rent a car, start learning when flights are cheaper.

But right now, the biggest change you are going to need to care about if how Genie, Genie+, and IA$ are really working! And I think all of us not planning a trip right now are very glad there will be theses boards to read to learn about all that!

Solo is great, btw. Go for it.
