We leave Friday for a quick 3 day trip. We are flying allegiant out of chattanooga to Sanford. 1.5 hours in a plane or 9 in the car and the plane won. We have never flown before. Our girls are 16 and 12. But if this goes well we will fly again for our sept trip. I have questions. We checked 2 suitcases. I know thy cannot exceed 40 pounds- are there any special instructions with like shampoo on checked bags? We are each going to take a carryon. I know it has to it under he set in front of us- but is there anything else? I would like his to go as smooth as possible.

There are no special instructions for liquids in a checked bag but experience has taught me to put all of my liquids in a large ziploc just in case there is a leak. More times than I can count I have had perfume or shampoo leak in my suitcase so I always put things in a ziploc or leak proof plastic bag.

The requirements are for liquids in carry on bags, anything that can't hold its shape outside of the container is considered a liquid. You will find the info for carry ons at the TSA website.

Enjoy your trip!

I'm flying Allegiant later this week!

You actually can take one carry on and one personal item per person. You would have to pay for the carry on, though. DH and I are going for 3 days and we are going to check 1 bag and take a personal item apiece. The personal item is the one that must fit under the seat. If you take a carry on, that has to go in the overhead bin. I'm a decently efficient packer and hopefully we can shove everything in one 40 lb. suitcase!

Anyway, like the prior poster said, when I put liquids in my checked bag, I put them in a plastic bag first in case of a leak. I do this even when I drive...you just never know when that lid might just pop off the shampoo bottle!

The TSA website has all of the information you would need regarding what you can/can't bring. Most of it is pretty intuitive. The only thing that can get confusing is the liquids. Each person is allowed 1 1-qt. size clear plastic bag full of liquids in the cabin (so either in your personal item or in your carry on). The liquids must be in 3 oz. containers or less (they don't necessarily have to be the original container). The TSA website probably explains it better than I did.

I hope you have fun on your trip!
