My sister, her husband myself and three kids are flying into Orlando for 2 weeks beginning March 1/08. We have never flown before and are flying out of Buffalo. We all have passports and I had crazy questions on what to take in my carry on. Can I take basic toiletries like hair brushes etc? My son has a DS, is he allowed to take that on the flight? What about an ipod? I'd appreciate any help, I'm a little lost on this subject. Thanks.

Electronics can be carried on. They will ask you to turn them on at security.(Make sure you have fresh batteries). They cannot be used until you reach altitude and must be turned off near arrival. (they will inform you) HTH:goodvibes

Hi,

We always bring what we would need in our carry on if our luggage got lost for a day or 2.
My kids bring their gameboys and we've never had a problem.
Have fun!

I can't remember the last time I was asked to turn on some electronics. These days they are much more likely to swipe your bag for drugs/bomb chemicals.

Do prepare your kids for going through security. You didn't say how old they are but if they are young and are bringing a stuffed animal along it will have to go through the x-ray machine along with their carry-on bag (assuming that they each have a small backpack of things to do on the plane).

Every time we pass through security in Calgary we are asked to turn on our camera, video camera, lap top, PSP, portable DVD player. You name it they check everything in Calgary.

Ouch. It must take forever to get through security. In Toronto I've never had to do anything but put my laptop in its own tub. It is the US airports where I have had my laptop bag and electronics wiped.

It is time consuming. As long as they see the power light go on and stay on they are fine. Calgary is a very tough airport to get through. No funny stuff goin on here I tell ya!:rotfl2:

We always travel with our Ipods and laptops out of Buffalo, have never had a problem, you just put the laptop in a separate bin, they run their wands over it and you are good to go.

You can put almost anything into your carry on now, follow the 3-1-1 rules for liquids or gels. We travelled for the first time last week with no bags, just carry ons, was really worried about making a mistake, all was well and so easy that I wouldn't hesitate to do it again! :goodvibes
