We leave for our first Disney trip ever in two weeks (11/4). We are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. Any suggestions from anyone who has stayed there before? We have a 5 year old girl and a 7 year old boy. Some of our closest friends are staying at AoA the same week and most of our reservations are together. They have a 7 year old girl. Any suggestions to make the most of our stay are greatly appreciated, as I'm getting nervous!

Do you have a copy of the unofficial guide to WDW? If not, you still have time to pick one up and read it. I think that gives the best overall feel for what you have gotten yourselves in to LOL!

We love Pofq! Try the Beignets! Take the boat to Disney Springs. Do the horse & carriage ride. Walk over to Riverside. Love the make your own pasta bar at their food court. Watch Bob Jackson’s evening show at Riverside.

I agree with getting a copy of Unofficial Guide. Planning will make all the difference for a successful trip.

POFQ is my favorite resort out of ALL resorts at WDW.

Your kids would probably enjoy the boat that takes you to Disney Springs, and back. POFQ has a nice pool for kids, food court is good, size of POFQ is the smallest on WDW property. I believe POFQ still has characature paintings. Have never had an issue with bus service while staying there. You can also use pool facilities at PORiverside, if you wish.

I bet you will love staying there. Have a great visit!

Have a fantastic trip! I'm staying there from 10/31-11/4 for the first time and I'm super excited.

If your kids like swimming they can also use the pool at Port Orleans Riverside. Each resort has movies outside on certain nights, that could be fun for kids!

The Dragon slide at the French Quarter is perfect for kids your children's ages. They will loan you a nice foam safety vest for your younger child. Pool towels are plentiful by the pool. No need to bring room towels to the pool.

I would set aside a non-park day to enjoy the pool during the day and take a boat ride at night to Disney Springs. :)

I don't have any suggestions/recommendations as we've never stayed at POFQ, but wanted to say I hope you have a great trip! :wizard:.

Thank you so much! This is great advice. And I just said to my husband that I would like to do some semi-relaxing things at the resort because it seems like every second is so packed full! If you think of anything, else let me know!

Thank you! We were so indecisive about the resort choice, so I'm reassured that there are so many positive comments about POFQ. And I was worried about the pool because my kids love a good pool!

I am so happy to hear this because we were a little unsure about staying at a moderate resort because the pools seemed more kid-friendly at AoA. Thank you!

Oh I didn't know about the movies! That's awesome. Thanks!

We don’t have kids but stayed at FQ about 5 years during Thanksgiving Week before the renovations and loved it! Next year we are trying POR.

You're gonna LOVE POFQ! Our fav resort.... mmmmm I can smell that lobby...

The doorman, Arneil, is all kinds of awesome! Make sure you take some time to chat with him!

French Quarter is my favorite! The resort is small and quaint. Make sure to plan a pool day for the kids at the resort. French Quarter has the best activities for kids throughout the day at the pool.

We will be staying at POR and taking a carriage ride! Not sure if they are also available at FQ, but surely you could walk over. Enjoy!

My advice is not resort-specific, but it is don't plan every second!
Plan resort time. Pools and movies and whatever. Without a balance you will miss so much of what WDW has to offer, imo.
We first went when our son was 5, it was a great age. I remember one day in Epcot coming upon the fountains that shoot out of the ground ( we hadn't known about them) and sitting for an hour while he jumped around in his shorts. Just happy. Kids need down time, but it was great for us too. Yes there are rides and shows and so much to do, but watch your energy level and make sure to eat/drink. We still now, 10 years later, always plan a few early nights and climb in bed all showered and happy from a busy day, watching a movie or comedy together, knowing the next day will bring more fun.
Have a great time!

We love POFQ!! Stay there every time we go with the family! Beignets! Boat to DS! Overall just a fabulous resort!! Enjoy! My best advice is get park hoppers. Then get to the parks early, take a mid day break - TS meal or go back to POFQ for a swim and/or a nap - then go back to the parks for the fireworks. Enjoy! Disney truly is magical!!

We have stayed at FQ twice an incredibly nice place. The resort is smaller so less walking for little ones. We always asked for a river view and the girls think of that boat as just another ride (just a lot easier to get on) The restaurant is nice although my only experience with it is getting breakfast stuff for the bosses ( the girls ). Waits on the buses were about 10 to 15 minutes tops.

POFQ is super fun. The water slide at the pool is very cool, the dining hall has good choices (agree on those begneits)! The lobby is fun, they have a good gift shop, and the whole resort is easy to walk.
