The next day, after an early morning at the Animal Kingdom we had lunch at:
Yak & Yeti
Some pictures of the menu:
My dad ordered a drink called a Glacier Water (I think…
) and I got a mango iced tea:
I decided to start with the:
Wok-fried Green Beans
Battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce $8.49
I tried these the last time I went to Yak & Yeti and couldn’t not order them. I have been thinking about them since then and they were as good as I remember. The green beans are well coated with batter/crumbs and fried until they are really crispy. They don’t taste especially green bean-y, but they still were delicious with the sweet chili sauce. The sweet chili sauce was really good as well, and seemed like it could be homemade (or at least store bought with some fresh additions) with pieces chopped garlic. The waiter also brought out a bottle of Sriracha (which I am in love with
) that also went perfectly with the green beans and sweet chili sauce.
My dad decided to order the:
Seared Ahi Tuna
Chilled, sesame-encrusted ahi tuna, wasabi aioli, & sweet chili slaw $11.99
He was looking to get something lighter as his appetizer for the day’s lunch, so he decided on the seared tuna. There were 6 slices of tuna over a veggie slaw, which was accompanied by wasabi and soy-based sauces. The tuna was well prepared and tasty, but nothing really special or extraordinary. My dad and I weren’t the biggest fan of the slaw – we felt that there wasn’t enough dressing and it was a lot of raw bell peppers (that my dad doesn’t like).
For my entrée I decided to get the:
Malaysian Seafood Curry
Mahi Mahi, scallops, little neck clams, mussels, shrimp, zucchini, roma tomatoes, red curry coconut broth, jasmine rice $22.99
I wanted to get something a bit different, and not really offered at any of the other restaurants we were going to, so I decided to get the curry. I have liked most curries I have tried (Japanese, Thai green and yellow), but haven’t really had many red curries so I ordered this (I also like seafood). The waiter mentioned that this curry was a bit spicy, but I didn’t think so. While it was very flavorful, it wasn’t very spicy, which my dad, who has a lower spicy tolerance than I do, agreed with. The dish had way too much rice, 2 big scoops stacked on top of each other in the center of the dish, that I ate around. It was well cooked, I just had too much to eat already. The seafood was well cooked, and there was plenty of Mahi Mahi, but not many scallops. The dish was topped off with some sprigs of cilantro, which I tore apart and mixed into the curry. I’m weird and really like cilantro – I could eat leaves of it plain.
My dad decided to try something a bit different and got the:
Duck with Anandapur Glaze
Roasted half duckling, orange wasabi glaze, jasmine ice, stir-fried vegetables $23.99
We don’t eat a lot of duck at home (if any) so that what my dad decided to eat. We both agreed that the glaze on the duck was really delicious, and were happy that there was a little dish of it on the side. It tasted like orange marmalade with some wasabi added, but it wasn’t too strong. The duck was pretty dry (especially the breast portion) – I’m pretty sure the duck was overcooked, but the glaze still made it taste pretty good. My dad wasn't a big fan of the rice or the veggies. The veggies were pretty bland, and my dad likes sticky white rice, which is what we eat at home (my mom is Korean).
Of all the dessert options, the most appealing to me was the:
Mango Pie
Shortbread cookie crust, fresh whipped cream, raspberry sauce $6.99
This was delicious. The dessert reminded me of the lemon tart they have at La Madeline, in that it tasted like it was made with condensed milk. The pie was cool and creamy, with a sweet, but not too sweet, mango taste. The crust was okay, but I’m never really a fan of any piecrust so I avoided eating most of it. On the side there was some chopped up mangoes and strawberries that were fresh and tasted good with the pie (and my dad’s ice cream). Along with the raspberry sauce there was a mango sauce, both of which I enjoyed. All in all, this dessert definitely exceeded my expectations. This is a dessert I would definitely order again or make myself.
My dad decided to get the dessert that the restaurant is most known for, the:
Fried Wontons
Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla-drizzle $7.99
My dad enjoyed this dessert, but not nearly as much as he liked my pie. His biggest complaint was that there wasn’t enough of the sauce on the plate – it really was just a drizzle. The wontons themselves seemed to be filled only with unsweetened cream cheese, which I liked, but it didn’t really taste very dessert-y cause it wasn’t that sweet. On the skewers there was also pineapple that was warm, and I like my pineapple cold, but it didn’t bother my dad.
The meal ended with a few fortune cookies, and a pretty obvious fortune (at least for that day
):
Overall I would say that this meal was a good choice for dining inside of the park, but it isn’t one of our favorites. We used a total of 2 dining credits and the meal would have been $95 (not including tip) if we had paid out of pocket.
