Hi all

My fiance and I just bought into BLT on Sunday and I am having a little of buyers remorse, not because we don't want it but because I am getting married one month from today, my fiance is jobless, and though my job is secure and we have money in savings I am terrified we are over our heads. We got an amazing deal though: $5 off per point and a free 3 night cruise next year so we really felt like we couldn't pass it up...can you guys please help convince me we made the right choice? I am so excited and happy but this is the biggest purchase I have ever made and I need !

Thanks,

Holly

I don't want to say it, but if you really are, as you put it, terrified that you're in over your head, maybe this isn't the right time for you.

DVC will always be there, and the incentives, although maybe different, will be there too.

It is a big financial decision, but it should be made without being scared, that is a big red flag to me. It would be different if you weren't looking forward to the payment (I think everyone feels that way), but with all the uncertainty in your particular situation, I would think very seriously about the financial commitment you're making, and don't sign anything until you are absolutely certain its the right thing to do.

Holly - I have a friend that is a marketing professor that told me something very interesting.

Men tend to brood over a purchase, i.e., get cold feet before a purchase. Women tend to have buyers remorse AFTER the transaction.

It is a very natural feeling whenever you make a large purchase.

HOWEVER, the prospects of newlyweds with an unemployed spouse...well, I can see your anxiety.

DVC was a wonderful purchase for my husband and I in our late 30s. We could afford the buy-in, maintenance fees, and all of the other expenses related to a Disney vacation. We could have bought into the brand new DVC on our honeymoon in 1992 and it would have personally been a big mistake FOR US. Park tickets, food, and transportation add up.

If you are asking if you will regret DVC overall, no, DVC is a wonderful program that you will really enjoy.

Only you know your situation. Give it much thought and make the best decision for you. We have NO REGRETS about purchasing DVC.

Best of luck with your decision.

First off - CONGRATS on your upcoming nuptuals!

We just bought into BLT on July 12 and came home that night to find out the next day that both of our jobs were in jeopardy (we both work for a large insurance firm that lost it's government contract - UGH!)

Needless to say, I was really, really, really concerned. We decided to keep our BLT purchase. My rationale was even if we do lose our jobs, we will get other ones (eventually) and in a few years we will wish we had the DVC. You can always bank the points if you want to skip a year to save some $$$. All in all, it was a great decision for us and we do not regret it. I had several nights of fear about it which I am over now, but who knows what the future may have in store.

You are embarking on a wonderful time in your life and you should not add to your stress. I always follow this process when making a decision that I am on the fence with.... Make a pro and a con list. Whichever is longer is the decision I go with no matter how strong the points were in the other list. The longer list is the one you took more time creating and is usually where your heart is. I have used this for some rather big decisions in my life - including our DVC purchase.

Hope this helps.
