What do I need to know? Is there a room request that I should make? I would love a view of the lake. Is that possible?

What is a "must do" at VWL.

Thanks!

Just an FYI when we were there 3 weeks ago the whole 3rd floor of the DVC section was being renovated. So if you request a certain room and don't get it, it may be do to the the renovations taking place thus reducing the number of available DVC rooms.

We love VWL. Stayed there twice so far. My families favorite day was when we hung around the resort. Our favorite activity was renting a boston whaler boat and seeing the magic kingdom, contempary, poly, and Grand Fl, from the water. Its a little pricey for the amount of time, but a neat experience. DVC does get you a 10% discount. I don't remember the exact price about $40 per 1/2 hour. I had never driven a boat and had no problem. We only did 1/2 hour because I'm frugal. But they give you a few extra minutes for loading and unloading the boat. So you get a full 30+ minutes of boat time. Long enough to see most of the sights.

There is not really a bonafide clear shot of the lake from any room. On the higher floors you can see glimpses of the lake through the trees. But because of the trees, you may get several views of wildlife. Last time there, we saw several deer from our balcony.

If seeing the lake is really important, I would ask for a pool view. That area tends to be more open, therefore the lake is a bit easier to see.

But dont sweat it if you dont get any particular view of anything, as pine trees are prevalent of most views, but it goes along with the ambiance of the whole peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.

As for things to do, you will make lots of memories of your own, but here are a few suggestions to help capture the spirit of the Lodge...

Take the Wonders of the Lodge tour. Its free. I believe it begins around 9am and lasts about 45 mins. Gives you a lot of insight about the place that otherwise you may walk right past and never notice.

Ask to be Flag Family. This is a hard thing to get, but if you are lucky enough, you get to go up on the roof at 8am on the morning they assign you too, and help the Ranger raise the flags. It gives you an amazing view of all of WDW with picture opportunities. Be sure to ask at Guest relations desk just to the left of check in. Be flexible with your days as you may only have one shot at it. We have done it 3 times and it has been an honor each time.

Listen to the background music. It is very subtle, but such a huge part of the Lodge. Most of the music has been taken from western themed movies and that type genre of music.

At night notice the lanterns flickering and the crickets chirrping. Its those little details that Disney does so well, but we tend to be rushing around trying to pack in all the parks have to offer, sometimes we miss the little things.

One last thing, cause I dont want to give it all away... be sure to check out the Carolwood Pacific Room in the lobby area of the villas. It is a nice cozy place to curl up by the fire and rest or read a good book, or play a rousing checker game. And make sure you check out Walts train cars from his own collection that he used to run in his backyard.

Have fun discovering all the things that WL and VWL have to offer!
