We are visiting SSR for the first time and wondering whether all the buildings are the same or are some buildings nicer/better to be in than others? Also, our party has one adolescent with special needs and one asthmatic child. In light of this, where is the best location to be?

First, all the rooms are the same in different buildings. So a one bedroom in Carousel area looks just like the ones in Congress Park. Some might have a little more wear and tear because of how old they are.

You might want to post your second question on the disABILITIES thread. I'm not sure what the child's special needs are. But as far as allergies, I can tell you the rooms are smoke-free. If you are looking for a peanut/nut free room, they don't have that.

SSR is a beautiful resort. I'm sure no matter what room you get, you'll enjoy it. :)

There is a bus stop at each section and a pool for each section except for Carousel. I think they use the Paddocks pool or the Springs (main) pool.

I think the Springs area is most convenient. It's close to the main buildings/pools, etc. Not trying to go off the main topic, but I think you can get some sort of pass for the child with special needs to limit waiting in lines. I teach a preschool special ed class, and thought this would be really great if any of my kids go. Check the disabilities board.

That is not exactly correct.
There is a card called the Guest Assistance Card that is available. It is not meant to shorten or limit waits in line (that information is even printed right on the card). It is pretty much what it says it is = a Card that tells CMs what kind of Assistance a Guest needs because of their disability.
There is a FAQs section about Guest Assistance Cards on the disABILITIES FAQs thread that explains a little more.

For the question about room location, it would be helpful to know a little more about the child's special needs. Someone using a wheelchair might want to be close to the first bus stop (so it's easier to get the wheelchair onto the bus). Someone who needs a quiet area might want to be farther away from a bus stop. The resort in general is pretty quiet.

We stayed in The Grandstand section in September. We were very happy with the location.
It is the first bus stop to be picked up and dropped off so that might be a plus for you. It was for us. We have three kids and I was one month shy of my third knee surgery so sitting on the bus was important to us. The bus was standing only by the time it reached The Springs section most days.

It is also a very short walk to the main pool and building.

Our building faced the themed pool in that area and it was very quiet. The pool was great too. The bus stop was a very short walk from our one bedroom.

We love SSR. I hope you have a great trip!
