I just booked a trip in August to the POR. It will be my husband and I and our kids (ages 1 and 4). What do I need to know. I've never stayed at the POR and I've never done DW with kids. Do you think POR was a good choice?

Sorry, I can't help you, but I am subscribing because our 1st stay at POR is in November. I am interested to see responses!

Joining the club! We are staying there in June...just over a month from now! I'll be happy to report when I get back!

Hi, I just got back 9 days ago from our second stay at POR. I think its a good choice for families. The main pool is fun and there are quiet pools (not so quiet, but without a lifeguard) nearer to some of the buildings. The theme is old south and very peaceful with the river running right through it. We thought the POR bus stops were the most crowded of them all. However, over Easter/school vacation week our longest wait was 25 minutes. The rooms can be very far away from the main building. If you plan to spend a lot of time there, try to request to be closer in. WE were in 9505 Parterre Place, which the building is relatively close, but our room was on the way far side, facing the parking lot. So it was quite a walk. All in all we really enjoyed it here. The food court was large and had many choices. The gift shop was just the right size and has a little of everything. The arcade was a good size and quite fun. The River Roost lounge was family friendly and served good drinks and appetizers. They have hair wrapping near Boatwrights the resteruant. I enjoyed a Prime Rib at Boatwrights, but the rest of my family thought the selections were small and did not really enjoy it. Hope this helps

Hello all...We will be there in May, so I will know a lot more by then, but I highly recommend Tour Guide Mike. He has so much info your head will spin, but it's fun to go through. Also, here under Resorts you can find the thread about POR. Last I looked, it was around pg. 23 or so.

Just keep DISing, too, and you will have piles of laundry, hungry kids, neglected husband, etc.,etc!!!!!!! :rolleyes1 :surfweb:

We have stayed at POR 3 times and absolutely love it. We were in the mansion area last time, I think we were in room 9537, which was across the river from the main building, very close to a walking bridge. We thought it was an awesome spot. Close to the lobby, the lounge :rolleyes1 , and the bus stop at the at the main building was super close. We were then the first pick-up and drop off for the buses at POR. Very awesome. A little bit of a walk to the pool, but not too bad. We actually parked in the main parking lot at the main building...we were that close. We loved the feel of the resort. It was very peaceful and the boat to DTD was great as well.
Have fun!!

POR is great- I love the grounds, but it is very expansive and AB does not have elevators. With a 1 & 4 yr old I would prefer POFQ- your 4 yr old will love the dragonslide( perfect age for that one) and it's much more compact and quaint. JMHO of course!
