First time at Poly and need some tips!!!

We are staying at the Poly for the first time in June and I couldn't be more excited. My husband and I have been married almost 10 years and have 3 beautiful kids but the last 10 years have been a struggle, emotionally and financially. We decided when we had our first child that I would stay home with the kids but that choice was the most financilly rewarding choice. We would never have made it if it hadn't been for my mom and all her help, not only financially but also with support and babysitting. Adult conversion is taken for granted until you no long have it. We owe her so much. Well...my husband started a new job this year making close to 3 times as much has he has in the past.

We have gotten our debts paid down, money put back for a rainy day, and actually started saving for retirement, which I thought we'd never be able to do. So we decided to take my mom on a trip to WDW and pay for the whole thing as a "Thank You" gift for everything she has done. She loves Disney!!! So in June, my mom, DS9, DD7, DS2, and me will be going to Disney for 7 wonderful days. My husband has to work so it will just be us girls and the kids.

Now I'm trying to figure out a few details about the Poly. We have never stayed there before but my mom has wanted ot stay there every since it was built but she wouldn't spend the money on herself. I'm so excited to be able to just this dream of hers come true.

What are the patios on the ground floor of the Poly like? Do they have doors to the outside and chairs so you can go outside and sit? Are there any rooms in any of the buildings that are close enough to the pool to see from the pool from the patio or balcony? During DS2's nap time, grandma is going to still in the room while I take DS9 and DD7 to the pool. We would like to request a room close enough to a pool that she could watch the older to kids swim once the little one goes to sleep. What longhouse should we request to be able to do that? I'm just trying to figure out the best location for us.

Any other tips about the Poly would be great!!

It has been a long time since I stayed at the Poly so I can't help you out there sorry. But I wanted to say this is a sweet thing you are doing for your Mom & that your DH is staying home & paying for this trip I am sure you all will remember this trip for quite awhile have a great time.

If you check out an earlier thread titled " where to stay at the Poly" I (and others) gave a few answers on general layout..sorry can't link to the thread 'cause I am new on the boards any my post count is not high enough yet...

There are some answers on that one about the rooms. We had a garden view in the Tokelau facing away from the adyult quiet pool looking out in the gardens and to answer your question on the ground floor. Yes, there are a couple of cahirs outside and a table on a concrete patio. It is really nice just opening your door and walking out onto the grass. The only thing you have to be careful of is not to feed the ducks or at ^am every morning they wil be quacking at your door - loudly

We will be staying at the poly for the first time in june also. I found out alot of info on tikiman site (just google tikiman polynesian). There is alot of info on the poly thread also. Hope that helps

take it from someone who was a first timer last year at the poly stay concierge an your right beside the pool the gardens and the lagoon,we luved it so much last september we are going back in december and the poly conceirge is the only way to go also remember to get the magic tour way plus dining its worth it

We loved the Poly last year. Stayed at Hawaii [concierge] which is right by Volcano pool. Samoa is by volcano and quiet pool and Tokleau [sp?] is right by quiet pool and close to volcano pool. That was a top contender.

Here's a map...first floor rooms do have sliders to patio with seating. 2nd and 3rd have balconies. but some buildings do not have balconies on 2nd floor.

The longhouses without balconies on the 2nd floor - What do they have? It looks as if there are sliding glass doors and a gate up. But no balcony?

We stayed at the POLY for the 1st time last year in August. After all the trips we made to WDW, it was the 1st time we could actually afford it.

My B-day gift to DW this year, April 5 - 13, was a trip to the POLY. I surprised her with a MK view in Tuvalu. 3rd FLoor Balcony.

From what i have seen, ALL first floor rooms have walk-out patios. All 2nd floor rooms have "juliette" balconies and all 3rd floor rooms have "sit down" balconies with a table and 2 chairs. (same for the patios)

I would request Samoa. Thats where we were last August. 3rd floor Valcano Pool view.

We are going back in August and after walking around the grounds, we are going to try / request a monorail view.

Is there anyone celebrating a birthday near or during your trip ?...OR, you could call the POLY direct about 5 days out and let the front desk know the reason for your stay. They will note your reservation and at that point you can give them your room request. (not gauranteed but they do try their best.)

We stayed at the Polynesian for the first time last year with our DDs 5&6 and had a garden view. We were in the Tokelau building with a view of the quiet pool, 3rd floor. At night we got a drink, Pinacolava was our favorite, and watched the water pagaent parade and the Wishes from the beach. Tonga toast is good for breakfast too.

We stayed at the Poly last January in Tokelau, garden view facing the quiet pool. We requested a balcony but we were given a patio. I thought that I would be disappointed but in fact I loved it. We had two rooms and they were adjoining so my DGD was able to hop back and forth while we enjoyed the expanded "living room". We were very secluded, the gardens are lush and beautiful, adding a layer of privacy to those enjoying their patio. We had a family of duck visit us every day. Enjoy your very special trip.
