After all these years I have finally snagged a reservation at AKL but I need help with room request. I read where people were saying you can still get a good view of the animals with a 1 bedroom standard view if you request the pembe savanna. Can anyone help me with room numbers? I am hoping to get a decent view, savanna view studio isn’t available. I hope to also get my hubby excited as it’s his birthday. TIA

I am assuming this is a point reservation and not one for cash through Disney in general (those differ as to what is considered standard view). The request you should make is for a room "near the Pumbaa elevator." That elevator stands between two building units, both of which have rooms on one side of the building that overlook the Pembe savanna. Those were originally savanna view rooms but were converted to standard because the savanna is somewhat narrow in that area, but animals do come there.

Be aware that if you do get a room in that area, you will have very long walks to the lobby and bus station, and somewhat shorter but still a long walk to the pool. Note also that the Pumbaa elevator location request needs to be made through Member Services and once requested you should not use the request page offered during online check-in. That page has very limited requests and some are ridiculous, e.g, you can request during online check-in for a room near an "elevator," a totally pointless request because there are three elevator locations along each of the two wings of Kidani and every room is considered close to an elevator; you need to name the specific elevator you want to be near when making any such request. Moreover, when contacting MS do not request a view of Pembe savanna. Those who answer the phone usually have no idea that there are actually standard view rooms with a Pembe savanna view, and if you ask for such a view they will tell you that you cannot possibly request savanna view with a standard view room.

Does anyone know if those “Standard Savannah View” rooms are available in a Dedicated 2 Bedroom or are they all designated as 2 Bedroom Lock-offs on that side of the building? I’d hate to reserve a 2 bedroom dedicated thinking I can possibly get that view, only to find out they are all lock-offs.

Each building pod that has standard view rooms, including those that overlook Pembe savanna, have a combination of dedicated 2BRs and 2BR lock-offs on both the standard and savanna view sides of the building pod.

Thanks for the encouragement! Next years’ trip is going to be a 2 bedroom dedicated at AKV and I would love one of those Pembe Savannah rooms. I will take your advice in asking Members Services for a room near the Pumbaa elevator.
