First Time at Coronado Springs, Here is my review

I definitely wouldn't worry about booking there, we loved it as well! I think that the biggest problem we had between the conventioneers in the Castitas was architectural . . . the buildings are tall and relatively close together, so when people shout it does echo a bit. okay, a lot. But it sure sounds like it is a rare occurance, as the OP is the only other poster I have read here that has ever had a problem other than myself.

We leave for CSR in how ever many days my ticker says. I booked knowing it was a convention resort but thinking it wouldn't bother me. Lately there has been much mention of the fact that this is a convention resort and "un-disney-like". But I'm curious because many other resorts are convention resorts and I'm wondering if its the same or why little is said about them. I know I have colleages attending a law conference at BC in March (I'm skipping it - can't bring myself to work when I'm at WDW). If CR, BC and others are convention resorts without it making them seem un-disney-like, why is CSR seemingly different or at least the only one focused on? :confused3

Great information to the OP, thanks for posting. I just switched from POFQ to CSR and now feel a bit concerned :sad2: . I have stayed at CSR but was always running off to the parks. The trip is to take it slow and enoy the pool. I hope it's not packed with a convention :sad2: I requested the Casitas because I've stayed at the Cabanas and Ranchos and the Casitas looked so nice, I hope I don't have to request to change rooms after unpacking :furious:

Can I ask when checking in if there is a convention going on and to place us away?

In all our trips, we never had a bad experience with conventions. I think it is more of an unusual event. The conventions are usually a good thing because they make the pool and buses less crowded. I wouldn't worry. :cloud9:

I have never experienced rowdy guests at CSR, convention or vacationers. The resort is so relaxing and romantic. It is not the most Disney-like resort but usually only the values are. The pool is great, the transportation is the best. Being a convention resort helps because they are usually busy during the day doing there convention stuff.

I've never seen a single person in a suit with a name tag at CSR. It's not a given that you will when you're there. Maybe I'll see them next time, but I really can't imagine that seeing someone in a business suit is going to wreck my vacation. As to it not being 'Disney', I don't find it any less 'Disney' than POR. The only resorts that have specific Disney themeing are the values. I'll gladly trade a giant dog statue for the peace and luxury of CSR or the lovely landscaping and boat to DTD at POR.

I agree. I'll take CSR any day of the week. I do usually see names tags but the conventioneers are usually in polo shirts. I have seen a few suits usually the folks in charge of the convention. But the way they dress would never effect my decision to stay at CSR!!! :cheer2:  :cloud9:

Thank you so much for this post. I have always wonderd the same thing! The DH says people focus on it because Convention Center is on the sign! Love the resort and it is Disney to me!

I've mentioned the other resorts begin convention resorts hundreds of times. GF, Y&BC, CR but really you only hear about it with CSR because it is the only mod convention resort.

People only focus on what they want to focus on. I've been to CSR (and other resorts) enough times to have had a chance to experience just about everything and I've never encounter rude CM's, conventioneers (or guests) drunk and/or swearing or anything to ruin my trip. I'm not saying this things can't happen but they are exceptions and not the norm. (Yes, I guess I've been lucky)

Think about all the people that stay at CSR. What percentage of them do you think post about their trips or even know about these boards? I'd assume it had to be very low. One usually only hears about the negative things of people's trips. I can't tell you how many DIS'ers (and other board members) e-mail (or PM) me about there great trips and then never post on the boards.

For the same reason the local news leads with the tragedies because that's what people want, the same happens on the DIS. Watch a thread about someone's great trip versus a thread about someone's bad trip. Huge difference in the number of hits.

The OP of this thread definitely seems not to be phased by anything that happened at CSR.

But CSR is what it is and if a convention may ruin your trip, then you should probably stay at a resort that won't let that aspect of the resort ruin your trip.

PS - The Pepper Market is not run by WDW or CSR. It is privately run.

I agree. I love CSR for what it is. The pool is great, the buses are terrific and they are usually like that because of the convention guests. But since everyone is different, some may not like CSR because of the convention aspect but that will leave more room for me. :bounce:

I will be there the end of next month...I am not worried at all ...Maybe because the kids won't be with us, and we are using this time to relax and soak up the "non Disney" aspects of Disney. DH didn't want to do Disney, he doesn't yet see it for what it is without kids. I personally think anyone can have a great time.
So I am looking forward to CSR, conventioneers and all ;)

We loved CSR resort also but had a convention happen upon us also. Not that large but pretty big and this is why we wont stay there again. Great food court, awesome pool, but not worth getting stuck in the middle of a convention. I am glad you had a good time otherwise. Thanks for the report.

Employees of companies must behave at conventions - even when they are held off site (not at the place of employement). I work for a major computer corporation. Employees are expected to behave in a professional manor while at work - even at off site conventions. They will be reprimanded and possibly fired for illegal and roudy behavior.
Someone threating to 'kill someone' is harrasment and could be brought up on charges. Getting drunk at a company convention is reasons for being put on probation and having a talk by their manager.

Why did the convention company management not reprimand their own employees ? It is not the CSR managers job to 'baby-sit' convention guests.

I would find out what company was holding a convention at CSR. I would write to the company and explain thier employees behavior. I would also write to WDW legal department and 'cc' CSR management saying the company should not be allowed to have conventions at a WDW resort.

SHAME on the company who has rowdy employees. If the employees act like that, I would not want to buy a product made by them.'

We stayed at CS last October in Casitas 4 and had no problems. It was lovely. There was a convention going on (believe medical - lots of doctors there) but never would have known it. We had a great trip!

The people from this convention were members of a fraternal organization. They weren't employees of a business. I don't blame these people for what went on there. Thats what they do at a convention. If I was a member I probably would have been out there drinking too :drinking1 Of course the public cursing and fighting should not go on anywhere. I think the resort should be aware of what type of convention is coming in and keep families seperated from it. Maybe Disney should not allow conventions of this type at their resorts.

I would report them. I know Eagle Scouts. I work with a Boy Scout Troop.
Shame on them. They are Eagles for Life !

Eagle Scouts are Scouts for Life - they take an OATH...

Here are the Boy Scout Oath & Laws

Scout Oath
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law
TRUSTWORTHY
A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is part of his code of conduct. People can depend on him.
LOYAL
A Scout is true to his family, Scout leaders, friends, school, and nation.
HELPFUL
A Scout is concerned about other people. He does things willingly for others without pay or reward.
FRIENDLY
A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts. He seeks to understand others. He respects those with ideas and customs other than his own.
COURTEOUS
A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position. He knows good manners make it easier for people to get along together.
KIND
A Scout understands there is strength in being gentle. He treats others as he wants to be treated. He does not hurt or kill harmless things without reason.
OBEDIENT
A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop. He obeys the laws of his community and country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobey them.
CHEERFUL
A Scout looks for the bright side of things. He cheerfully does tasks that come his way. He tries to make others happy.
THRIFTY
A Scout works to pay his way and to help others. He saves for unforeseen needs. He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property.
BRAVE
A Scout can face danger even if he is afraid. He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at or threaten him.
CLEAN
A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean. He goes around with those who believe in living by these same ideals. He helps keep his home and community clean.
REVERENT
A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.

I don't believe the Fraternal Order Of Eagles are Boy Scouts or Eagle Scouts.
