First time at AKL - LOVED it!

We always stay deluxe because we are a family of 6 ( used to be five because my son was 2) , this past December we stayed in 2 connecting rooms at AKL (first floor looking at the pool)and it was awesome. I love the lodge, the atmosphere is just calm and peaceful and it smells so good there

So glad you enjoyed your trip. I cant imagine how anyone could be disappointed at AKL.

We love AKL too. We have tried a few other deluxe (monorail) resorts & were quite disappointed compared to AKL. We are staying at AKL again on our next trip. I do want to try an Epcot resort after that, but my guess is that we'll keep going back to AKL.

For those of you staying deluxe for the first time - one warning - I'm not sure I want to stay anything other than deluxe now - - ok not totally true - I am one of those who will probably stay at every resort at one time or another - just to see what they are all about!

I did think AKL was a bit farther away but it just added to the charm of it for me - kind of like being in another world - a land unto itself.

We check into AKL in 37 days and I can't wait! We even managed to get the Club level cheaper than the regular savannah view, so Disney will be paying me to eat and drink on their dime instead of staying in a regular room. LOL!

We have never stayed on property before, so we are going to be doubly spoiled with deluxe and club. I can't wait!

We are DVC owners at AKL, and LOVE everything about it. DVC = best investment for us! Also the only other place that can steal our hearts from AKL is Beach Club. I could write a three page thread and why we love Beach Club! Glad you loved AKL. There is nothing like it anywhere else. On a side note we just returned from AKL on April 27th as well and we got a bit of pixie dust...we booked a 2 bed villa standard view and they upgraded us to a Savanna view 2 bed! Have a magical day.

Oh my goodness - I have been looking at photos of the club level offerings - just because I definitely want to do that someday - - what a way to make a trip that much more special! Enjoy!!

How do you like the DVC options - Kidani vs. Jambo ?- have you booked the value rooms or club level at AKL through DVC yet? I am looking to make AKL a home resort but not sure yet. Haven't tried the Beach Club yet but I have in inkling for the Boardwalk! Oh will just have to try them all! Love hearing of your pixie dust!! Seems like AKL is a good place for room upgrades or am I just imagining that??

We like Kidani because it's quieter and a lot more relaxing! We haven't' booked club level yet we are fairly new (only owners since 2010) Beach Club is so wonderful. I know you will like them. We are staying at SSR in October but are wait listed for BC. It's going to be a bit of a stretch though since it's during food and wine at Epcot. The upgrade this time was our first ever experience with pixie dust so I don't know if it's AK, but it does seem to happen there a lot. I'm not going to complain though.

Hmmm - yeah I was wondering what the chance of getting an Epcot resort would be during Food and Wine - that was one of the reasons I was considering the Boardwalk as one of my home resorts. Good Luck with the BC!! Of course SSR seems like such a wonderful resort so can't go wrong either way - LOL! That's what I like about dvc - don't think I'd be unhappy with any resort!

We are staying CL at AKL for our 2013 vacation. We are so excited It is a surprise for our daughter and we have never spoiled ourselves with the perks of staying deluxe and CL.

Just curious, how did everyone get their upgrade? Did they surprise you with it upon checking in at the hotel or did you get an email before you got there or did you request an upgrade?

It was a surprise at check in for me. I checked in around 12:30pm - and didn't do online check in, not that that makes a difference.

I have heard of many people getting upgraded from a standard room - I would like to know what the percentage is really of getting an upgrade.
