I have been lurking for a while, but stepping out now :goodvibes I have at last gotten my DH to agree to a Disney trip next Sept. I have not been since childhood and DH has never been. He is not convinced that adults can have fun at Disney. I am trying to assure him we will have more fun going now before we have children and can experience it for ourselves. We can take our future children later.

I am just starting to plan. The only thing we know for sure is that we will go Sept. 2008. Our anniversary is around Labor Day, but we don't want to hit the crowds that will be there then.

What tips and tidbits of wonder do you wonderful DISers have for a first time couple???

I go with my dad (he's 75 and I'm 33) and we find so much to do! Disney is great at both appealing to the kids and the adults. There are "Disney for Adults" books out there - definitely check them out. Epcot is especially tailored for adults - you'll have a great time strolling World Showcase. Maybe get tickets to Cirque du Soleil - it's a great show! There are tons of nice restaurants where you can have romantic meals, lots of shows in the parks to see, attractions for all ages, Downtown Disney. You'll find SO MUCH to do, trust me!!

My Hubby and I go to Disney and have a ball. We are in our late 40's. We have done cruises and other vacations and find that going to WDW is an escape from realilty. It makes you feel like a kid in a candy store.
My son use to make fun of us because we are so into WDW then in 2003 when he was 27 we invited him, his girlfriend, and his ex's family with our grandchildren to go with us, he then understood why we loved going there so much. So hopefully your husband will catch the WDW bug too. Good Luck

You will have a great time! Get some planning books that are for adults and those traveling without children, there are some great ideas there. If you or your DH golf Disney has great courses (that's how my DH got the Disney bug).
There are some fantastic restaurants if you are foodies. There is so much to do. Cirque de Soleil is fantastic.

I'm going Sept 2008 with a group of family ranging in age from 20-73. None of us expect to be bored. Disney has something for everyone.

Happy planning!

Thanks so much for the feedback. I know we will have so much fun!! Neither of us golf and he has weird eating habits, but we are both still big kids so the rides and shows are actually the big draw :D I'll keep my eye out for travel books for Disney without kids.

DH and I Just got back Wed from a quick anniversary trip without the kids. Make sure you get an anniversary pin from the hotel or guest services. Tell them it is your anniversary trip when you book your ressies and make your ADRS. We had a ball at the parks. We rode or saw almost everything in all of them. And even had our pictures taken with most of the characters.\

One of the favorite things we did was the first night we were there we got on the monorail outside of MK and had a drink in each of the 3 monorail hotels. It was so much fun sitting watching everyone arrive for Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary and at Ohanas at the Poly. Someone even got engaged at the lounge at the Grand Floridian!!!!

Believe me you will have a great time!!!!!

:thumbsup2
We went for the 1st time ever after we had empty nest. We were Army and traveled alot and never really had money to take our 3 kids. Now we hope to plan a trip with our 3 kids, their spouses and the 7 grandchildren we now have. It was so wonderful, my DH took me for a week on our 25th wedding anniversary. Turns out to be my favorite place in the world!!
:dance3:

Hi. You said this will be an anniversry trip? I know this. One thing you NEED to do is when you get to Magic Kingdom, go to the guest relations building, and get two anniversary buttons. evey cast member will greet you and congratulate you, and they are excellent keep sakes!

No kids here and went for the first time as an adult. I love it there and I always have a great time.

I have never gone with kids. It has always been adults (though I think we all get to be children again at disney world).

Just hubby and I are going for our 10 yr anniversary... I really have to fight the guilt...But I know we deserve it. Glad to hear other do the same thing.

I've never been with kids, and truly, cannot imagine it with kids! We become such kids ourselves! I have SO much fun at the parks, and the thought of packing up for the day with kids, or strollers, or diapers, or kid swap areas, yeah - it just doesn't sound the same to me.

Tell your hubby to just enjoy! The sights, the sounds and the rides are amazing! Don't overplan, but at the same time, have an idea of where you want to go and what you want to do. If you are thrill seekers, there are plenty of rides to go to. Think of opportunities outside of the park (such as Universal (DBF LOVES this park), Sea World, Busch Gardens).

I think this is the one place in the world where if you act like an immature kid, it is acceptable! I love the fact that I have some of the fondest memories there, and cannot wait to plan another trip right after coming home from one!

Cirque du Soleil is great! Don't sit up too close.
We got the 3rd level cheap seats on the aisle and it was perfect!
and....
of course...
you gotta go to Jellyrolls ;)
It's not a Disney trip without a Jellyrolls stop!

okay you are above 21 years old - correct?

then the end of Sept - and the start of food & wine festavial!!!!

you might also get lucky and get in the free dinning. (they generally have that in Sept, too)

Yeah, we are praying for free dining. DH has the wierdest eating habits (there's a nutritionist in his near future) so that will be the best savings for us, I think.

There is def. a trip to PI to be planned. If he can smoke and drink, he'll enjoy it. Anyone know if I can get a Tusker's Beer any where? AKL maybe? It's Kenyan and the best beer I have ever had, but I can not find it stateside almost anywhere. Would love for DH to have one as he was not with me when I had my college experiences.

It was a couple of years ago but DS26 got a Tusker's at AKL. We were eating at JIKO when he ordered it but if JIKO has it then the lounge should have it too. It was two years ago though.

You will have such a great time! DH and I went for the first time in September 2006 for our 10th anniversary. We immediately fell in love with just about everything, and for me, it has become a bit of an obsession. We don't have kids and don't plan to ever have them, and we can easily imagine going every year. There is so much to do and see!

Hubby and I are going to WDW in 50 days, for the first time. It will also be our first time traveling without the boys. I'm SO EXCITED!

We've been to Disneyland twice - in 1998, the boys were 6 and 7. Then last year with my cousin, her family and 2 extra kids - that was 11 of us in total. We had so much fun on both trips. In my opinion it's impossible to go to Disney and not have fun. I don't think it matters what your age or group size is.

We bought a DVC membership on our last trip. We got it for US. We are planning on taking the boys ONCE - next September, but not again until we have grandchildren to spoil.

I can't think of any place else I'd rather go for a holiday.
