First Time Advice?

My wife and I are going to visit WDW for the first time in October. We have about 8 days in Orlando and are trying to research tips, and money saving ideas on where to stay and ticket pricing for WDW. Ideally, and "at par" specials would be great for your fellow Canadians.

I'm sure there is tons of info already on this discussion forum which I hope to uncover, but any guidance on this venture would be great!

p.s. We have been to Disneyland 3 times, and we know WDW is supposed to be quite different. (We are used to walking to the park and to all the areas in the park). Any tips on this issue would also be great.

I see that you have already looked at the codes post. Those codes are for on-site hotels at Walt Disney World.

Also check out the threads regarding US and Sea World on this board for specials at those parks. I would also become a regular on the Theme Park and Budget boards here at the DIS.

There likely won't be a ticket deal available for WDW in October, so choose your ticket options carefully by planning the number of days you will actually be in the parks.

We have been to WDW twice before in October. I would definitely try to stay away from the parks during Columbus Day Week-end, as it can be VERY crowded and unpleasant! It's the same day as our Thanksgiving FYI.

Is it just you and the wife? Or kids too? There's lots to do just for adults as well. Don't forget Pleasure Island...great fun...go dancing, don't miss the comedy warehouse and the Adventurer's Club!!!

Also, if you like coasters, you MUST do Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios!!!!!

You won't find any special ticket deals in October but you probably could get a decent discount at an on-site hotel. Unfortunately, there's not much incentive for us CDN folks to spend our hard earned $$$ ...especially for us Westerners. Our best airfare we had was $615 taxes incl. per person flying United Airlines Calgary to Denver then to MCO.

Just spend some time on these boards and you will find TONS of info to plan your trip and if you have specific questions, just ask! We're a helpful bunch of DISers

Thanks for the replies. It is just my wife and I that are going to Orlando. I can't decide whether or not to rent a car if the majority of our time is spent at WDW and/or Universal since we will likely be staying in the vicinity of those parks.

Since we are flying to Orlando, will we be able to get around using transit and the hotel shuttle services or will we be severly disappointed?

Also, has anyone purchased "discounted" tickets through the Orlando Tourist Information Centre? The show discounted prices on their website but I didn't know if that is the way to go or just pay the prices at the WDW gate?

Getting around either the Walt Disney World property or Universal Studios is not a problem using their internal transportation systems. Getting from WDW to US however could get a bit costly. Mears offers bus service between the two or you could take a taxi.
