First Stimulus, Now "Deficit Reduction".

Gallup: 63% 2/23
Fox: 60% 2/19

Three weeks ago...each poll was 5 points higher.

:rotfl: Here we are "debating" poll numbers. In the meantime "Rome is burning".

Obama's playing politics. First, he let's Pelosi and Reid "pork up" the stimulus with paybacks and payoffs. So, he "keeps" his campaign promise of "doing something".

But, uh oh. We can't pay for all this spending. This means we must print more $$$$. What follows? Devaluation of the dollar and inflation.

What to do...what to do? Now, we must become fiscally responsible.:lmao: He achieves this how? That's right, he "keeps" another campaign promise. He's "raising taxes on the bad, nasty businesses and the "rich". **and the Libs cheer wildly**

And while, the Market continues to nose dive? Obama's out campaigning....on OUR dime. It's all he knows how to do. :sad1:

The title of the thread shows Obama is on the ball. We need stimulus to deal with the recession, but long term Obama is ready with a plan to reduce the deficit as well. Excellent!!! Finally we have a president who seems to know what he's doing. It may seem confusing to some because it has been lacking in the White House for so long, but this is an example of COMPETENCE.

In just 30 days! Yes, EXCELLENT!!

(psst... the market is STILL tanking. Just sayin'...)

so are people against trying to reduce the deficit?

I thought many were against the stimulus as it grew the deficit too much, and now Obama wants to lay out a budget to help reduce the deficit and that's a bad thing too?

Of course not! We were against THIS stimulus plan. We wanted a different plan.

Ha. Good point. Some people will criticize, no matter what Obama does. If he cures cancer you'll see a thread titled "Obama policies increase population to dangerous levels."

Remember that pesky little problem about his lack of experience holding political office and making/steering political decisions? Coming back to bite us now...

Obama is not raising taxes, he is letting part of the temporary tax cut expire. When the tax cuts were implemented, they were put in place for 10 years. He will retain the tax cut on lower income workers, but those at the high end will see their tax rates revert back to what it was before.

Now why does he feel he need to do this? Perhaps it is because the Republicans voted in huge tax cuts and then went on a wild spending spree. The national debt soared during the 6 years the Republicans controlled congress and the White House. We have huge deficits, soaring national debt etc. all from these 6 years of total fiscal irresponsibility. If the Republicans had cut spending like they said they would - we would not be in this situation, and the tax cuts could be sustained.

It is very important that you look at what Republicans do, rather than what Republicans say - they always talk about fiscal responsibility, but they are anything but fiscally responsible.

Do a bit of research on the deficit and the national debt - you will find that three Presidents are responsible for almost all of our national debt, all three Republicans (Reagan, Bush Sr, Bush Jr). Stop listening to the Republican double speak and research it yourself, I think you will be surprised and just how bad the Republicans have been. I was a lifelong Republican, but not anymore. If you really really look at what they've done, you may see the light as well.

Spin, spin, spin, you must be getting dizzy with all that spinning. :lmao:
Your statement is just plain silly.

The 'WILD SPENDING SPREE' has taken place in the last 30 days with Nancy, Harry and Barry. NOTE: He said that he will cut the deficit that "he inherited", which is between 200 and 400 billion $$$. No mention of the trillion or so that he just added. The double speak is coming from "Mr 1984" himself. No one could be more "Orwellian" and get away with it.

Thank you for posting this. However, I believe for many republicans their beliefs go beyond logic and facts. To turn away from the Republican party for them would be to lose their identity and it just won't happen. They thrive on Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, and all of the negativity they spew -- some people soak it up for 6-8 hours or more a day. They won't allow facts and history to get in the way. It's kind of like a die hard sports fan who will never stop rooting for a certain team no matter what.

I'm not talking about all republicans but I think everyone knows someone who fits the description above.

And you seriously think Liberal are the party of the positive? I can name at least a dozen vicious liberals in the media that spew venom on a daily basis, heard of CNBC? Please get me a break. Your party just spent more money than any in our history and you all are defending it along with the disgusting amont of pork along with it and you say WE ignore facts. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Letting the tax cuts expire is a tax increase. Especially for the people who entered the job market 10 years ago.

I think we need to have a term for this. Whenever someone mentions these guys.

Similar to Godwin's law. What can we call it?

How much did the banks get in their bailout pre-Obama? And where is it? Did it go for bonuses? I know there was no oversight so I don't think anyone can really track it. Why don't I see any outrage about that but when it comes to allocating dollars to help people who are struggling (instead of wealthy bankers) people are all up in arms. I don't get it. I guess some people believe in helping fellow man only if they are already rich?

Yes! Remarkable insight! By George, you are so on to us! :lmao:

That's just it, it's not going to people that need it. There is so much pork in that thing that most of it won't stimulate the economy for a long time according to the economists. And I do agree Republicans spent too much on their watch too. But it was chump change in comparison to what's happening now.

I am not 100% for the stimulus package. I hate they are sending checks to retirees willy nilly without taking into account whether or not they really need it. I happen to know of a few retirees who definitely don't need it.

And I cannot speak to the pork at this point because I need to read more. But the bank heist was just a complete outrage.

I wish someone would start a thread asking what the #1 thing they would take out of the bill would be, if they could. I would do it but I have to get my daughter a snack and then ready for bed. Anyone want to do this?

I find it weird that Obama is considering and giving bail outs left and right, yet he is going to try to pay down the deficit. Who goes on a huge spending spree and tries to get out of debt at the same time? Sounds like Obama is trying to make it look good for the Chinese who are tired of giving us money. He says he is going to do the right thing for our kids and pay down the debt. What he means is that the Chinese are about to cut us off and if that happens, we're screwed.

After just passing this staggering spending bill he's going to look us in the face and call for fiscal reponsibility. :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2:
Absolutely absurd.

It is just further proof that it doesn't matter what he says. It is meaningless. He gives a lecture on fiscal responsibility to people who pay their mortgages and taxes, and yet plans to bail out the irresponsible and hire the tax cheats. Who does he think he is kidding?
