We will be there for a week early Oct. for the first time! We have a ds6 and will be planning plenty of down time to really enjoy the resort. Any suggestions of things not to miss??? Any dining advise? Should we also plan to spend time at Fort Wilderness? Any advise on campfire or hayrides?? Any ideas to make trip really special for a child? Thanks in advance for any tips!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Hi Jacksmom ~
There's lots of fun stuff to do at and around the VWL. You can rent water mice and bikes....the trail around the WL is so pretty. Make sure to wear bug spray though. You could enroll your son in the Cub's Den kid's club http://wdwig.com/childfaq.htm
I would definitely check out Ft Wilderness for the petting zoo and wagon & pony rides. A friend of mine recently attended the Ft Wilderness campfire (Chip and Dale make an appearance) and really enjoyed it. You can rent surrey bikes at Ft Widlerness too.
Don't forget the Electric Water Pagent which can be seen from the WL beach around 9:35 pm and from the Ft Wilderness area around 9:45 pm.
For dining, don't miss Whispering Canyon Cafe for lunch or dinner in the WL lobby---a very fun-themed western style meal. Also, take the blue flag boat across Bay Lake to the Contemporary and have breakfast or dinner at Chef Mickey's. Your son might also enjoy the Hoo De Doo Revue dinner show at Ft Wilderness (you'll need reservations for that one).
Have a fun time !

I agree, there is a lot of fun stuff to do around the lodge. We rented a surrey bike at the marina at the Lodge and rode it over to the petting zoo. We did a half-hour rental and had enough time to ride over, walk around the petting zoo, do pony rides and pedal back to the lodge. Our kids really enjoyed it, and still talk about it.

When we were there if Feb. the lodge also offered daily children's activities down by the pool. I know one day they made kites.

Have lots of fun!
