First round of stimulus checks deposited today

If we get a stimulus check and we should, I will hang onto it. I know they say it is tax free but I have a feeling they will be asking for it back next year. I just don't trust them.

Did you claim her as a dependent? If so, she's ineligible for any money.

She was a dependent for our 2018 taxes, I made sure to file her 2019 taxes as an independent. Per the IRS website, it states she will be getting her stimulus deposited in her bank account today.

For those having issues w/ their independent kids, I wonder if the age is the problem. DD was 24 in 2019 and just turned 25 this month.

Wonder if the age for these young independents is causing a glitch? Hopefully it is something that can be fixed or is just causing a delay in the stimulus check.

Could be it but you'd think it would just not come up with a result in that case. Also, this site was supposed to let you track your payment. So the fact that everyone isn't getting theirs today is kind of the point of having this tracker available, right? Mine specifically said that based on the little information I input on the first page (SSN, address, date of birth) that they cannot determine my eligibility. I checked a couple more times in case it was just the site having issues and got the same answer each time. Then it locked me out and said to check back in 24 hours. Sigh.

I would just try again tomorrow, maybe you will see it deposited in your account by then!

I've always owed a bit with federal (2018 was $49) so it won't be deposited into my account since they don't have the account numbers. Which was why I was using the site, to enter that info. Hopefully it will be working tomorrow but I have a bad feeling about it since others have had success using the tracking site.

Well, I'm super frustrated right now. No stimulus payment and since they got the tracking site up today I tried that - it said they cannot determine if I am eligible? I make well under the 75k limit and cannot be claimed as a dependent by anyone. They gave me no options of what to do next. Anyone in the same boat or know what to do here??

I checked a few times because I moved in 2018 and thought maybe they had my old address on file. Nope. Double checked 2018 return and I used my current address when filing since filing was in 2019 so that wasn't the issue. I even plugged the old address into the tracking site just to be sure but I just got the same message about not being able to determine if I was eligible.

I hope there will be some way for people to contact the IRS if mistakes like this are made. I was counting on that money for this month.

Yeah I tried to call & they are not even allowing you talk to anyone.

Do you usually have to pay too? I know they don’t have my direct deposit info for this reason.

My DS got refunds in 2018 and 2019 as direct deposit into his bank. He is on his own. Working and living in apartment. And I got that same message about not being able to determine eligibility. Now, folks we know who don't qualify as they make too much...they also get this same message about not determining eligibility. And I asked 2 different couples I know...they both get that message. So that seems to be the 'you don't get it' message. I hope I am wrong for DS's sake. He needs this stimulus money. I hope it's the message for those they have to review more carefully.
