First round of stimulus checks deposited today

My DS got refunds in 2018 and 2019 as direct deposit into his bank. He is on his own. Working and living in apartment. And I got that same message about not being able to determine eligibility. Now, folks we know who don't qualify as they make too much...they also get this same message about not determining eligibility. And I asked 2 different couples I know...they both get that message. So that seems to be the 'you don't get it' message. I hope I am wrong for DS's sake. He needs this stimulus money. I hope it's the message for those they have to review more carefully.
That’s why I am concerned b/c we don’t make too much & there is no way to correct it b/c the irs isn’t answering the phone. Pp said he got that message too & said he makes well below the $75k cap.

Well, I hope they have a way of fixing it quickly for those who actually should get the payment based on all of the guidelines they put out.

I'm actually a woman. :)

We are married & file jointly. Our income is below the threshold for that. But if they mistakenly looked at our total income & applied it to each of us individually it would be more than the $75k threshold for an individual so I wondering if that’s the error?

Ours was deposit this morning. DS and his GF had theirs deposited today. DD21 is bummed because she doesn't get one. She is still in college and DH and I claim her, so we don't get $ for her and neither does she.

Question: For those getting this message, did you all file your 2019 taxes already? I have not since I owe about $200 and the deadline was extended to mid-July. They said if you filed in 2018 but not 2019 yet, you would still get the stimulus check. Just wondering if maybe it's delayed a bit for those who haven't filed for 2019. Basically just trying to find a common denominator between all of us receiving this message at this point.

I am single so that wouldn't be the reason for mine... hmm...

And on another side of this, a friend of mine whose wife passed away about a year and a half ago got the payment already and the amount for a couple. So now he needs to figure out how to return the $1,200 he shouldn't have gotten and just keep the $1,200 he should get.

I have not filed 2019 b/c I know I owe probably about $1500.

I am getting the same message and have not yet filed for 2019 since I'll owe. Everyone I know who got theirs had already filed for 2019, so my guess is that they have not yet looked back at 2018 info yet.

I am panicked too. For DS. Is she on your health insurance? My DS was not even listed as a student 2018 or 2019 (though was in CC part time). Worked full time. Lived on his own. Only thing is he is on our health insurance. Nephew is on SIL's too. Her other son, also a part time student and working full time on his own, is not on her insurance and he got his stimulus today. So did that flag this group...being on parents' health insurance???
My DD 23 was and is still on our insurance and she got hers.

I’m thinking it may be more about the wording of being eligible. If you COULD be claimed as a dependent even if you weren’t may be the catch. I’m just frustrated. dd moves out last year, has her own bills to pay and lost her job because of this and now may not get help. We did not claim her but I guess that may not matter😢

This is giving me hope! ETA: Although my friend who got double the amount hasn't filed his 2019 returns yet. He did have his direct deposit info on file with them already though from his 2018 return, which was filed jointly with his late wife. Hmm.

We were worried about that too since DD was still in school last year and lived at home. The wording is just really weird and hard to understand. Did she file as not being claimed? I would not give up hope just yet.

Is anyone waiting for the paper check? Sounds like that is going to be delayed even further.

We should also be getting it, but no direct deposit today and the same "can't determine eligibility" message on the IRS site--have not yet filed 2019 taxes. Hopefully, that is the issue.
