I was wondering if anyone could offer some suggestions for something to do the first night of our arrival. We arrive at MCO from Boston at 6:15 p.m. with my mom and 6yo son). We decided to take ME (just to save a little money) and are staying at POR. I figured we probably won't get to our resort until maybe 7:30 to check in. It will be a Saturday evening but it's the first week of October so I don't think the parks will be opened late that evening. I thought that maybe we could try dinner at Boatwrights and then see Bob the piano player. Then I thought maybe a character dinner, but if we traveled off property we probably won't be eating until around 9:00. Can anyone suggest something??

My bet is that by the time you check in you'll be too tired to do much other than stay at your resort. I think I'd stick with eating at your resort, maybe let your son have a quick swim to wear off some of that accumlated energy from flying, then early to bed so you can get up and head to the parks.

Last time I came in about the same time as you're getting in (I normally fly in the am), we were too tired to do anything but eat dinner then we crashed!

The next morning, we were ready to go bright and early!

i think your plan to have some dinner and see bob (jackson?) at the river roost is a good one... maybe take a tour and explore your resort... go for a swim... POR also offers a carriage ride which might be nice... and i read somewhere something about a storyteller or fire pit or something (sorry for the sketchy details, i am sure someone will fill in the blanks)...

You could also take the boat ride to DTD is you 6 year old isn't too tired after eating dinner, but I think I would save that for another night. Hve fun!

I don't know how fast ME is, but I would be surprised if you get checkin and everything by 730, honestly. I would play it by ear - we usually spend our first evening exploring the resort, having a light dinner, reading the info in the room, settling in, going for a swim, and going to bed early. We are usually up late the night before packing, had a long day traveling, and want to hit the parks bright and early and in a good mood the next day.

Since you won't know what time you'll be getting there, I'd just play it by ear. If you have tons of energy and have to do something, grab the boat to DTD and walk around there. They are always open late.

I think I'd just take a swim and have dinner at Boatwrights. Enjoy POR...it's awesome!
