First night Recommendation with a Newbie

Hi! I am taking my BBF next October to WDW for her first time....WE have the Dining Plan booked (basic) and I am ok with using 2 TS credits for an amazing meal. My original plan was to do California Grill/watch fireworks on our arrival night and use 2 TS credits from our DP.....My son and I both love a great steak, and I have heard that Cali Grill has a wonderful steak meal, which would be great! Do recommend I keep my current plan, or can you think of another place to go that might be better? Perhaps Yachtman's?? Would you keep Cali Grill for a first night experience or go somewhere else??? WWYD??

I say keep Cali Grill! We are doing the same thing next month for our arrival night.....it will be my dad's first time at the world! So excited

Cali Grill - but on the basic DDP I'd pay oop and save the TS credits for later in the trip. Without apps on the DDP, I think you'd "pay" more for 2 other TS meals than you would for just an entree/dessert/standard beverage at a Signature. If you were going to have some adult beverages and just a glass of water at the table, and maybe split a dessert, it's even better to pay oop.

Use the extra TS someplace fun: maybe a pre-rope-drop breakfast at CP one day PLUS a nice dinner someplace in Epcot?

I'd keep CG. Pay for 1 meal using ddp and then pay for another entree oop. Then it only costs you 1 from your TS for the sake of counting. Split the dessert and enjoy your meals!

HI I really don't want to pay out of pocket though, because I think at a signature restaurant, it would be extremely expensive. I bought the plan,so I feel I might as well use it also, paying out of pocket for one person would still leave us short 2 credits for another TS meal, as there are 3 of us in our party. I think I agree with you all about keeping Cali Grill for our arrival dinner....also, if they want an app, I will just pay oop for it, as we are more app people than desert people!

We always do Ohana as our first night (we always stay in the Poly). Its not a signature restaurant or anything and wouldn't be that killer steak meal but its really fun and it sets the mood for the trip. Plus its only 1 TS

Another thought would be Kona... its only 1 TS and has a great menu... with a good steak on it.

Don't get me wrong we LOVE Cali Grill... but we are upgrading to DxDP this time otherwise we wouldn't "waste" credits on a signature restaurant... did that once and regretted it on the reg DP.

We are doing CG for arrival night on 10-10-11, at 7:45. I agree that you should keep your ressie!
