What time do lines start forming at the GCH entrance? We are hoping to be one of the first to ride for the day!The park open's for everyone at 8:00am so we can enter 7:00am. Will we need to have our running shoes on? :)

I would temper your goals a little bit. Don't mean to rain on your parade, but many times RSR isn't up and running by the time the park opens (early or regular open times). Some days it opens on time, some days an hour later, some days not until noon. See what I'm saying? So, if you hype kids up that your going to be the first, you might be waiting 3 hours for the ride to open.

That being said, we went to the line at the GCH entrance an hour early and we would have been 3rd in line. It was a Monday 11/5, no particular special day. We decided to go have breakfast instead of waiting. Line got long about 15 minutes prior to opening.

I would recommend riding at night, when the ride is lit up. So beautiful!

Have fun!

Would the best option be to just get FP's for RSR first thing in the morning? Do you know if they are checking times on FP's? I know they are at WDW! We have six days next week to ride but just wanted to ride as much as we can before the big crowds for Thanksgiving start showing up!
Thanks so much for the info!

Yes, fastpass is a good thing. They start issuing FP when the regular park hours start. It only takes a couple hours to go through all of them for the day.

There was just my husband and I with no kids this time, and we were able to ride 3 times in one day and once another day. 1st day we went to early morning hour and ride was not running until about 45 minutes later. We rode another cars land ride and checked back to see that the line was open and moving. Waited only about 20 minutes and rode together.

RSR has a single rider line that is great if you don't mind being split up. So, right after we rode 1st time together, we got in single rider line and rode again, waited 15 minutes. Then on our way out of cars land got a FP (one hour after general admission opening our return time was for between 4 and 5pm). We rode together later that evening.. it's so cool to ride in the evening. Then another day we rode, we queued up in the single rider line around 7pm and waited about 30 minutes. The park closed at 8pm that night and I noticed that they were not even letting people get in line without a FP at that time. They probably don't want to be there all night getting people through the ride.

Have fun.

Also, be ABSOLUTELY sure what days you have early entry. On our last trip, a family (rather the mom) was upset because she "paid a premium to stay at the Grand Californian to be the first ones on the ride and that the employees at the front desk were wrong" (her words not mine). She proceeded to cut in front of everyone at the gas pump rope thing, because "no one here paid a premium to stay at the Grand Californian." As you can tell, I'm not happy about snotty hotty-totties who don't bother to do their research about their vacation.

Remember that you can enter early on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at DCA and the other days at Disneyland. If you don't get in with Early Entry (as people up above have warned) always try, try again with the rest of us "unwashed masses" the next day :). Use the wide right technique (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2971596, and hopefully you get on soon!

Good luck and hope this helps!

From what I've read, you have a better chance being first to ride if you get there early, use the main entrance and the wide right technique. After you ride standby, get a FP. Hopefully the ride is running first thing...that part is always a gamble.

Thats my current plan when we go in Jan. If its not up then DW, FIL, and DD can go on the other CL rides while I go get FP. But we will try our luck for sure with riding it first and then getting FP after so we can ride again later.
