First haircut?

My DD will be a week away from her 2 birthday when we are at WDW and she needs her first haircut I think I have read somewhere that you can get one at the barbershop on Main Street. Does anyone know anything about this?

Hi - we did this in Jan 2004 for my son and his best little friend (a girl).

The barber shop is right next to the firestation on the left entrance side. It opens at 9am and they don't take ressies. Be there at least 15 before it opens. They had 2 stylists and the cost was $12 (I tipped them $8 cuz it was so cute).

They got a certificate, they saved a lock of their hair and each got a pr. of the black mouse ears with said "First Haircut" on the back. At the end of the haircut they had the option of hair dye and I said yes so my son had bright blue hair and then mickey confetti in it. My other friend opted for no haircolor but got the confetti and a cute princess hairclip (free) in her hair

I think a men's hair cut was $15. I have seen men with a painted stencil of mickey on the back of their head - too fun!

I also saw a post that on the blackboard it lists the names of the customers in line and it's a list of the last hurricanes- worth checking out. It was a highlight of our trip!

DS#2 was born with a full head of hair & we took him for his first haircut. It was really cute. Everything in the above post was 100% on the money, but we also got a huge roll of Mickey stickers for both the boys and found the wait to be exteremly minimal--went about 11 am. DS#1 wanted his hair cut too. They drew (not stenciled) a Mickey on the back of his head & made his hair "Buzz Lightyear" green. All the attention he got at the parks was completely priceless. A definte highlight of our trip.

We got DS's first haircut when he was 21 months old (he was born bald and it took forever for him to get hair ). It was great and a real bargain. They covered DS in Mickey stickers and he played with them while he got his haircut. He got a certificate, we got a lock of his hair and he has Mickey ears that say "First Haircut". It was really priceless.

We hope to get DD's first haircut when we go in December. She was born with lots of hair unlike her brother so if should work.

Our son just turned 10 months old, and we're so excited to be getting him his first haircut in WDW. We adopted him only 3 months ago, and as far as I can tell, he's never had a haircut, so it'll be an adorable and special thing to do in the MK.

We'll be in the MK on May 13, so hopefully it won't be too busy for us to do this with him.

Just wanted to chime in agreement about what a great deal the barber shop is. Took my son for his first cut at 17 months and the barber (Michel, I think) was GREAT. He first covered my son in about 50 stickers, and he was so busy peeling them back off that he didn't even notice the barber skillfully, and QUICKLY, cutting his hair. Obviously they are quite used to doing first haircuts with wiggly toddlers.

He got all of the stuff mentioned above, although there was no option of hair dye (we'll have to check that out next trip). We did wait about 1/2 hour to get in, lots of adult men getting cuts as well. My daughter INSISTS that she gets to get her cut there this next trip as well!!

We make it a tradition to go to the barbershop every time we go to WDW. Each of my girls have had their first haircuts there. The shop is wonderful. Go- enjoy! DH got sparkles in his hair!

We do the same. My DS got his first haircut there. Billie is wonderful with kids. She is very patient and soothing to kids who may be a little "scared" with their first haircut. Don't get me wrong, Michael is also very good, but my DS does better with Bille. BTW, I think the price of a haircut has gone up a couple of bucks. There's usually a line and as mentioned, it's first come first serve. Just ask who is the last one and figure that it can take anywhere from 15-20 minutes per customer. They also need to take mandated breaks, so just be patient. It is worth the wait!

My children get a haircut at the Main Street Barber Shop every visit. Daughter got her first haircut there, and it was a very good experience.

All of the CMs who work in the barber shop are great, but I think Michel has the best repoir with small kids (and is the best at painting Mickey on the back of your head). I always make sure he does my daughter's hair. My son always gets a buzz cut at Disney World, so anyone can do a good job with that!

Did anyone mention that this is truly a barber shop and they do not wash hair? Just so you know, you shouldn't expect that you will get a wash. But for $14, its still the best deal in Disney World!

Oh, and employees get their hair cut here alongside guests. I always ask employees if they need to jump line in front of me. They never do, but I hope they appreciate my gesture.

DS#2 can be quite a handfull; he doesn't like anyone messing with his head. I think it has to do with the fact that he was so sick as a newborn and early infant and was always having things shoved up his nose (to help him breathe) and down his throat, etc. So, even though when he had his first haircut at 7 months (way over due to the fact he had a huge head of hair--DS#1 was bald until he was 2), he was having a very hard time cutting it. So he just really took care of the long pieces (enough to make him look like a little boy, but no style) & ended up only charging us $5 for the baby. We tipped him the rest.

When we go in May, DS#1 will still get his hair cut there, as it was truly special even though it wasn't his first, but I'm sticking to a kid specialist to cut DS#2's hair. Even they have a hard time with him & they are used to it. When we were at the barber shop they told us 90% of the haircuts were CMs.

My husband is upstairs right now washing the gel outta my girls hair. We just got home from our Disney trip a bit ago and this morning my oldest got her hair cut and gelled and younger dd and hubby just got gel, lots of gel. They styled both their hair to look like mickey ears! My husband's hair was spiked in green and a huge painted Mickey on the back of his head.

On Sat, we got my sons 1st haircut which was fun. I agree Michael is the BEST for this job, he was so good with my son.

It was $14 for my son which included the mickey ears, his cut hair mixed with pixie dust and a certificate.
