I thought I read a while back about getting a child's first haircut at the Main Street barbers. Does anyone have any information on this? Price, special mementos, recommendations, etc. My grandson will be turning a year old on New Year's Day and it's time to start planning. Yeah!!

My DH an DS always get a haircut at the Harmony Barbershop. Matthew got his first haircut when he was just a year. He received a set of Mickey ears that say "first haircut" on the back and lots and lots of pixie dust. It is super and the best haircut ever! I think it is around $15?? This was taken last month when they got haircuts.

Have a great time, oh and get there as early as you can, there is usually a wait. :D

Anyone can get a haircut at Harmony Barbershop, my 15-month old got his first haircut there at the end of Sept, it was great! Billie cut his hair, she was really patient with him, even though there were people waiting and he wasn't thrilled to be there. I believe the cost was $14 or $15, and he got the "First Haircut" mouse ears and certificate, and they gave us some of his hair. My 3-yo also got his hair cut that day, he got "pixie dust" and a blue Mickey head on the back of his head. It was great! The barbershop is over by the Fire Station.

DD2's hair was covering her eyes, since she had never gotten it cut. She never liked anybody brushing her hair even, so we weren't sure what to expect. There were a few people in front of us when we got there, and it does take a bit for each cut, so we waited close to an hour. DD napped and woke up just in time. She was extremely cranky when we sat her on the stool, but the barber (wonderful man who had a spanish accent) showed her a Mickey spinner and comforted her. When he started to cut, she smiled and sat still for him! We were shocked! When he was done, she got some pixie dust, special Mickey ears & the certificate. She looked like a little princess, and was grinning from ear to ear! I think it was 14. Definetly worth much more! If she doesn't let anyone else cut it, we may have no choice but to go back to the barber shop on Main Street!

I really wanted to do this on our trip this past Oct for my Ds's first cut but forgot. :charac2:
I don't know if he can wait until next Oct, though he has VERY curly hair so I don't think it will be a problem. If it can wait I will do it for sure! I would love to hear more experiences!

We had our son's first haircut there. It was totally cute! Some of the character's came in and watched(we were there first thing in the morning, and in off season). She gave us some of his hair, a certificate, and mouse ears with my first haircut. My only warning....beware the mouse ears....my little guy snapped himself with the band on the hat and that put a little spin on things from his end....but he loved the majority of it and the pixie dust was too cool! princess: :wizard: pirate:

Would a 8 1/2 month old be too young? My son was born with a lot of hair and so far, I've been the only one to trim his hair -- only when he was distracted while playing in his bath. I can't imagine him tolerating a haircut by anyone at this age, but he'll turn 8 1/2 months by the time our next trip to WDW comes along, and I would love to have his first hair cut by a barber be done on Main Street!

We were just there on Thurs. It is now $17 for adults and $14 for children. DH was going to get his cut. We waited about 1/2 hr. and there were still 2 people ahead of us. We did not stay in line as we didn't want to be late for our PS for Thanksgiving dinner at LTT.

My son was 17 months old & received his first haircut @ the Harmony Barbershop as well. His hair was cut by an elderly (early 60's maybe) gentleman whose name I cannot recall, but I have several pictures of him cutting my son's hair. My son was less than happy when the process started but was calmed by the barber placing 20 or so Mickey Mouse stickers all over him. This kept him preoccupied throughout the rest of the haircut. We recieved the mouse ears with "first haircut" embroidered on them, a certificate, the majority of his cut hair in a bag & the stickers that adhered to his clothes. We told them to hold the pixie dust. I believe the total was $15.00 but I gave him $20.00. We enjoyed it so much that his second haircut will be this coming March when we visit the World.

Was it Michal who cut your son's hair? Your story sounds almost identical to mine. My son was 17 mos, Michal cut his hair, and started with all of the stickers, as well. He was great with my son, and gave him a great haircut. I would have loved to have had my daughter's first haircut there on our last trip, but she was only 13 months, and had we gotten her hair cut, she would have looked like a boy again (she's just now getting hair long enough to look like a girl) :D

I can't wait to do this in january. My DS turns 1 on 13th Jan so I thought we would do this as part of the celebration. I can see all the kids wanting special pixie dust after this though (DD5, DS3 and DH27)

Thank you all so much for your responses. Now I'm really looking forward to having his first haircut done by the Barbers. I was worried he wouldn't sit still for it, but it sounds like they're EXCELLENT with kids!
